How likely would it be for two kids from the same high school to get into harvard? I ask because the val and sal at our school are ridiculously good applicants (in fact, I'm willing to bet our valedictorian gets a likely letter). It just seems like the adcoms wouldn't want to choose too many from the same region, which is unfortunate because I go to a huge school that could easily be broken up into 3-5 average size high schools :(

If they are both awesome, they will both probably be admitted, but the chances of that are slim. Diversity is a huge issue.

Geographic diversity is not the only factor in the reasons why certain students are accepted. In my daughter’s high school, 2 were accepted, one of whom is first generation causasian male. The other a middle class female.

It depends on the high school.
See: [Boston Latin School - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Boston Latin School - Wikipedia).
“Boston Latin had been a top feeder school for Harvard, and has consistently sent large numbers of students to Harvard, recently averaging about twenty-five students per year.”

There’s probably going to be upwards of 35,000 applicants this year…maybe I should just give up XD

I really don’t think that what high school you go to is going to be a deciding factor. I know one school in Minnesota or something that usually had 0-1 student attend per year, but last year they got like 6 in. It happens. And as for giving up, are you content with wondering “what if”? Or are you sufficiently happy with your other options that you wouldn’t wonder? If the latter, maybe don’t apply. If Harvard (or another equally selective school) is really your dream school, I’d hate to see you not try for it.

^That Minnesota thing makes me feel a LOT better. I do feel more confident about my chances now when I think about my rank/scores/EC’s. I’ve visited H three times already and I love the campus more and more each time, so I’m definitely going to apply.

That being said, will I still need to have some kind of innovative hook to stand out among the countless kids that will be applying from my school?

Sadly , the hook should be something you have been doing for awhile .
