APs: will take AP English Literature/Comp next month
clubs: several, and am President of one, Secretary of another, and in Band all 4 years

Area: Texas, a very small town but my high school is about 1 hour away in a larger city. We can’t WAIT to be free of this commute.
Ethnicity: bi-cultural, Dad is a Swiss immigrant who came here alone in 1980. We consider ourselves Swiss and American and celebrate holidays/traditions/food/language of both. Good thing I like cheese!!! ;)

Fin Aid? Yes, I applied but got nothing. FAFSA says we should pay $28K, but Villanova gave me only loans. Probably can’t afford to go here. :(

GOOD LUCK to you as you look at colleges. It’s so much fun visiting them and imagining yourself as a student at each one.

Where do you think you will go?

THAT is a very good question! This weekend I’m pouring over the computer to see what I can learn about the places I’m accepted. I think I will begin to eliminate some that either give me no financial aid or are not as strong academically as the others. From the comments I’ve been lucky enough to get from other CCers, it might wind down to CU-Boulder, Wisconsin, Indiana, and (my dad’s pushing for) Arkansas.

I like Villanova SO much but they gave us no financial aid and there is NO way my family can pay $51K a year for me. One sister will start grad school this fall and one night last week our oldest sister shocked us at dinner by proclaiming that SHE wanted to go to college part-time. She was a recruited athlete for Texas A&M back in 2003 but the week before she was supposed to go to College Station, she decided that she didn’t want to do her sport anymore; she rode horses. She started and stopped a local junior college for nearly 3 years before my parents refused to believe her anymore. She now waits tables at Denny’s, lives at home, and can’t afford to be on her own. She is a mess. My parents are thankful that she seems to have seen the light and now realizes the importance of getting an education, but they’ll believe it when they see her finish a semester. If she does take classes, that will be all 3 of us in some sort of college at the same time.

How about YOU? Where do you think you’ll go? What are your choices and how do you feel about them?

swissmiss…have you parents call Villanova and explain all of this if they haven’t done so already…I have seen several posts where those kinds of calls have resulted in positive outcomes for people…good luck to you.
