who got in?

and consolations to whoever didn't.
if you got in, just put
1 will you go to smith
2 why you applied
3 what's special about you
4 what you want to do in college

1 prolly not- i got a scholarship at lafayette
2 i saw it was a great school with a good govt department, no distribution requirements, and of course, the whole feminist thing
3 i'm really into politics and reading, i would describe myself as intellectually curious. my essay was about social justice
4 govt, french, english...

1) Very likely, but not sure. It's sorta my first choice, but there are other schools I'm really strongly considering.
2) There's no such thing as a "perfect" college for me, but Smith seemed to be closer to perfect than other places. Good student body size (LAC sized for attention, albeit a relatively large LAC so it's not too claustrophobic), good location (not in a big city but not too isolated), strong academics, no PE requirement (I may sound like a loser, but it's important to me), gay-accepting, the people seemed friendly when I visited, the social scene seemed like a good fit (I want somewhere laid back --- not too intense, either in terms of academic competition or partying), campus small enough that I can just walk (I don't want to have to drive, bike, or use public transit constantly)
3. I'm not really good at any one talent. I just tend to be really intellectual curious about many things. I like reading about random stuff like ancient history, politics, etc. I know a lot of stuff from reading, traveling, etc.. I'm sorta boring other than that.
4. I want to a) make lots of friends and have a stronger social life than I have now b) find something I'm really interested in and would like to dedicate my life to doing c) go on my first date? Who knows! d) get used to cold weather (I don't really WANT to do it, but I think it would be good for me none the less)

1 It's definitely in my top 3! (I'm praying I don't get into UVA, actually, or my parents will make me go there because it's less than half the cost of Smith...)
2 Great art history department, cute college town (though I really wish it were closer to a big city), five college system, grad schools will probably know Smith's name really well, and LAC atmosphere.
3 I honestly have no idea... I went to Russian Governor's School and have a ton of art-related extracurrics?
4 Art History, maybe Linguistics, continue with my study of Japanese, and I don't know... perhaps I might do something biology-related too, because my parents are pressing for med school :/

yes, unless they give me the world's worst finaid package

at the time i was looking at/applying to colleges, i couldn't make up my mind about what i wanted to study and smith was one of the few colleges that offered every major i considered. i also liked the housing a lot and noho was a huge plus in my mind.

i don't really know...i have an interesting sense of humor and that's about it. :)

engineering (i love airplanes)

1 will you go to smith? In all likelihood, yes. I am also considering UMass (scholarship!), and I am still waiting on a decision from Brown.

2 why you applied? I first heard of Smith while I was at an info session for Bryn Mawr. Then I visited Smith and fell in love. Then I did an overnight visit and fell deeper into love. And then I visited a third time and fell even deeper into love. Fourth time's a charm; Open Campus will probably seal the deal!

3 what's special about you? I can play about a dozen instruments? (i.e. nothing much)

4 what you want to do in college? For as long as I can remember I have wanted to double in Physics and Education. And for the past year, I have been on an "i want to be a music major" kick. And as of a few months ago, I have been seriously considering med school. So suffice it to say that I have absolutely no idea!

1 Yes! Yes1 Yes!
2 Originally as a backup school, but now it's definitely my priority!
3 Uh, nothing really... I love my piano?
4 Get ready for law school.
