I just wanted to know the credentials of those who got invited for the Trustees Scholarship. I was invited for the Presidentials but I think I'll get half tuition anyhow if I (hopefully) am a National Merit Scholar.
If it makes you feel any better, I have no idea why I'm a trustee candidate. I'm ranked 10-something in my school, and this guy who is ranked 3rd is up for presidential.

this process is too weird!

OK--I'm the one that orginally asked the question.

I'm homeschooled so (naturally) I have straight A's...well, actually I'm also taking college courses at a local university and have completed/will have complted the follwoing(with A's so far) college courses

My brother is currently at USC with the Trustee's at his scores were about the same as mine

Oh..to whoever got the Trustees: What were your extracurriculars like?--that was one of my brothers strong points and I'm wondering if that's why I didn't get it.

My extracurrics aren't very good, actually.

2 years of a Flute Ensemble
3 years of a community service club
2 years of hospital community service
Flute playing...some awards, not many/important

And I'm a legacy of USC. I'm curious...to the others that got trustees, are you legacies?

im not a legacy...i dont really know why i got picked, your scores and stuff seem just as good as mine. maybe they liked my essays?

I'm a legacy and i think that made a difference considering my sats are not perfect bout 2200. Anyone else get trusttee int without perfect scores?

Oh..maybe they like people who do sports.

^ I dunno about that. I am the most athletically-challenged person ever. Can't hit a ball, catch a ball, run fast, or do anything along those lines.

For the scholarships, did they look at highest combined score or in one sitting? I'm up for trustee, and my SAT is 2300 combined and 2250 in one sitting.

i got a trustee invite!

Redland thanks for posting you really calmed me down. I was worried everyone who got trustee interview had perfect SAT but i guess other things were considered. I am wondering, did you apply undeclared like me?

yup i applied undeclared major

I have a Trustee invitation! Here's my info:

Combined SAT: 630 Math, 750 Verbal, 800 Crit. Reading (2200)
SAT IIs: 780 Spanish, 750 English Lit, 740 US History, 680 World History, 640 Math IIC
GPA: 4.10 Weighted (my school doesn't do unweighted)
AP's: I earned a 5 in US History, European History, US Government, Spanish Language, and Spanish Literature. My only 4 was for English Literature.

I'm a legacy kid, but my parents aren't really the hardcore Trojans that many other alums are. I got National Spanish exam awards, a National Hispanic Scholar award (my mom is from South America), National Commended Scholar, Dean's List, and a few school service awards as well.

I'm the founder and co-president of a community service club at school, and I'm also the senior class community service rep. I volunteer at a food pantry every Saturday morning.

So my SAT isn't perfect, mostly because math and I have never understood each other. I don't know why I was chosen to be a Trustee finalist, but I'm truly honored.

so, for scholarships, what on earth did they look at?
i had 2280 SAT1 (800 Writing, 750 Critical Reading, 710 Math)
760 Math2C, 730 US History, 710 Lit.
3.85 Unweighted GPA
great interview.
plus several ECs (senior class president, junior class vice president, member of international touring choir, national honor society, national merit commended scholar, etc) and some rather interesting personal circumstances.
but... no scholarship letter : (
anyone have a clue what they focus on?
maybe my essays sucked, but i thought they were great...
i'm also not a legacy kid, so i don't know if that made a huge difference.

anyway- congrats to all of you who got invites! best of luck with your interviews!!!!!

(if you don't care to reply to my post, don't worry about it... i'm basically just whining..)

I think I wrote very good essays and I think that was probably a main focus and legacy probably REALLY helps because they think the non-legacy high achievers probably do not have much interest in USC.

LAME... well they are SORELY mistaken!!! i'm QUITE INTERESTED!!! haha..

oh well. Congrats to you and good luck!

sarahjhansen, it isn't just numbers. It's the intangibles. You really don't know what they are looking for and it makes it a crap shoot. I mean I'm sure there are lots of people who had better scores then me (not gpa...4.0uw) who didn't get a scholarship interview (i get to interview for presidential), but I obviously had something that the admissions committee really liked. Maybe it was my essay? Maybe it was my study abroads? Maybe it was just my application? Maybe it just felt right? USC does seem pretty stat driven, so I'm surprised you didn't get one and it seems you had a lot of other good stuff. Be glad you got in, because many won't.
