...damn it*

ColorfulPig and what007--There is no prioritizing of interviews. The local ASC directors don't get all the applicants' names at the same time. People who send their applications in early have their names processed by Yale to the ASC directors earlier and therefore get called/emailed about interviews earlier. The ASC directors have no idea what the admissions committee thinks of the individual applicants and the ASC directors are the ones responsible for setting up the interviews. Whether you have been contacted about an interview has everything to do with the information your ASC director has received from Yale, what's going on with your ASC director's schedule (remember, they're volunteers and have jobs/families/lives outside of coordinating local interviews), and the ASC director's ability to find an alumni interviewer (also volunteers with busy lives) with time to conduct your interview.

thursday,friday, saturday...oh.. sunday! i'm nervous now...
quick question:even if it's casual, still no jeans, no converse.........right?
just making sure.

I didn't wear jeans, but I really don't think it would have made a difference to my interviewer; we met at a starbucks and she was about 28, but then you never know who you're going to get, so I'd say wear khakis and play it safe. I personally think its petty that some would make a big fuss out of what an applicant wears, I mean come on... obnoxious ring a bell?! :)

My interviewer said casual, too. But I'm not sure what I'm going to wear...probably jeans. Shoot. That's the last thing I need to worry about now.

I called my ASC Director yesterday. This morning, I received the call for an interview from local alum. Time is certainly of the essence as next week is Thanksgiving holiday, and I am going away. Also, reports are due back to Yale by Dec. 1st.

Even if it's casual, I wouldn't wear jeans. While I don't think anyone would give you a poor evaluation because of it, why take the risk? Wearing something other than jeans shows that you're taking the interview seriously.

You might be amused to hear that I struggle with what to wear as an interviewer. If the candidate meets me at my office, it's no surprise that I'm wearing a suit. For weekend interviews, however, I try to wear something that won't make the applicant feel badly if he/she is wearing jeans or overdressed if he/she is wearing a suit.

my interviewer still hasn't called me..and apparently my name was submitted to the asc at the end of october. i completely understand the whole "interviewers are volunteers and have other lives," but...a month is kind of an awkward space of time. i don't know what's going on!

Wow, I think I win this "worrying about interviews" race. I submitted my app on 10/2, and still haven't heard from an alumni interviewer. I called the ASC director for my region, and he called and left a message on my voicemail that he remembers assigning me and that I should be hearing from an interviewer soon, but the deadline for the interviews is only 12 days away! Ahh!!

notfadeaway and jli2006--I'd call your ASC directors on Monday. Given that Thanksgiving weekend may cut down the availability of interviewers, you want to give the director the maximum amount of time to find another interviewer for you. I'd be pretty casual with the call, maybe saying that you were just checking in because the deadline is approaching. Do not sound panicky or accusatory. I bet most of the ASC directors would understand your concern and would rather have you notify them that your interviewers haven't contacted you than for you to miss having an interview.

If it doesn't work out, it really isn't the end of the world. Also, with the large crop of EA applicants, a lot of ASC directors are probably scrambling to get everyone covered. Not that that makes it any easier on you, but it may explain what's going on.

Thanks for the advice, but I ended up wearing jeans anyway. They were nice though, and I was comfortable.

Overall, the interview went well, I think. At least better than I expected..

I just did the interview today, and I really think everything went really well. She was really nice, and yeah...I wore jeans too, but I wore a really nice dress shirt to balance it. She asked me what book I recently read for personal enjoyment, and I said Harry Potter.....turns out she's a big fan too! All in all, I think everything went really smooth and great.

i had my interview too. She was really nice and i was nervous till the end. actually, she was wearing jeans. i wore brown pants and a nice shirt. i'm tired now...

What would you wear if you have an interview at his office?

WesternMass--Don't know if you're male or female. If male, pants other than jeans (khakis?), a collared shirt, and shoes that are not athletic shoes if you have them. No need to put on a coat and tie. If female, nice pants and a nice shirt or sweater or a nice skirt/top combination. If female, do not expose midriff, have exposed bra straps, exposed thong underwear, or an excessively tight/low cut/transparent top. You may think this is obvious, but I've seen it all. Especially when an interviewee meets at my office, this kind of attire is pretty embarassing.

I called the ASC Director tonight, and he called my interviewer right away and then that guy called me, and we scheduled an interview for tomorrow. The guy said he hadn't called me because on the list of people to be interviewed it wasn't clear I was an early action candidate.

So, I suggest everyone calls very soon if they haven't been contacted yet! Everyone's friendly.

Folks, not everyone will be offered an interview. My D was not interviewed and was accepted 09. This was in the western US and there were alums in her town. An interview is no indication of whether you are or are not a good candidate.

Admissionsaddict or whoever else may have a suggestion...

I sent in my EA app on October 31st and have yet to hear about an interview (and I've never had the chance to interview on campus as i live out west ). I called my ASC director on the 21st and left a message, but she has yet to return my call. It's currently the 25th and I know interviews have to be in by the 1st... do I call again? If I don't get offered one, I assume e-mailing my regional adcom and telling them so would be a little too spazzy? (I guess I just don't want to seem like I didn't care enough to accept one when that wasn't the case).

I know it's not a huge deal and people get in w/o interviews, but I was just wondering.
Thanks for the help and enjoy the holiday break!
