My son is planning to commit tomorrow. We are very excited.

Deposit paid! Official now - oldest son will be a member of the Tulane University Class of 2017.

Congrats Skiermom!

My son committed several weeks ago and we could not be happier. The first thing we did was we went on the Tulane Bookstore website and ordered tee shirts, sweatshirts and coffee mugs for the whole family! We also got Tulane mugs for his two teachers (who wrote letters of recommendation) and guidance counselor. We filled them with chocolates and DS gave them as a thank you gift along with a thank you letter.
And Vitrac. Thanks once again for the info. I asked DS about if he clicked on accept and he said “I don’t think so.” We will take care of that asap…

I like that Tulane mug/candy idea. Good thinking Jozuko!
To everyone celebrating, best wishes for a Happy Passover.

ok, I just went on his Gibson account and accepted the reward. how were we supposed to know that we had to do that? it was a little confusing if you ask me. but, yay…done! once again, CC to the rescue (and Vitrac!).

Under the Financial Aid tab which we all had to check to see whether or not we have been lucky enough to qualify for aid is a link for the Summary of Current Status on the top left. There is a link there that says “you have unsatisfied requirements.” If you click on that, among other things, it explains that you have to accept your award. I guess we are supposed to go through the Financial Aid link with a fine toothed comb, which we as parents might do, but our students are not typically as curious about the “details” of their financial aid. For some reason, that doesn’t seem to be the priority for them! They are already moving on to graduation, roommates, class schedules and August 24th!

I committed today. I assume that continuing to check both my Email and Tulane Email will be important in the coming weeks and months? Their admission acceptance page didn’t really have any details about when/where they want final transcripts, how to fill out roommate surveys, signing up for meal plans, etc. Or does that all happen at and around orientation?

The roommate survey will come out sometime before orientation. Most other details will come at orientation. As far as the final transcript, I am sure you will get an email about that at some point. Some high schools will automatically send them at the end of the semester if you have informed them of your college choice. Now that you have committed, if you know what dorms you want as your #1 and #2, you may be able to enter those on the admitted students website. Your dorm selection can be easily changed down the road if you find a roommate who has different preferences and you want to change yours to match. Congratulations on your decision!

son can’t commit until he finds out if he is a member of class of 2017 Altman Scholar. He was told that the decision won’t be made until late April. We haven’t even visited the school because of the uncertainty.

tmicheal - Actually, I think Tulane just contacts your school directly about final transcripts, so I don’t think you have to do anything about that. The rest you can either get at Orientation or, if you don’t go, they will send you info on all the steps you need to take and/or you can find it online. As you say, check your Tulane email pretty often. I think at this point everything will go there. Does it have a forwarding feature so you can get it on your smartphone (if you have one)?

Committed to Tulane last night after receiving his final acceptance! He was very happy to have received his acceptance from Vandy with a 10.39% acceptance rate in the RD pool, but his heart has truly belonged to Tulane for a while now. It’s so nice to have the decision made!

Congrats Kreativekat!!! Vandy is a great ego boost. Glad Tulane got him!

Thanks Vitrac! I am really excited for him! I think Tulane is really a great fit for him for so many reasons.

very happy for you kreativekat. now the fun really begins. let it all sink in and then choose your orientation days - make hotel reservations etc. also book a hotel for movin-in (Vitrac, Aquamamom, Bloomy and I are all staying at the Hampton Inn. I am also staying there for Orientation (June 9-12).
also, I suggest buying your son a sweatshirt ( I think that DS has worn his about a dozen times already!) Wearing your sweatshirt to high school makes it official!

fallenchemist, it does and I do. A quick question re:orientation - is it as vital if I have already attended the Honors Weekend, registered for classes, and seen the dorms, etc.? I feel like all the info I need will probably get sent to me during June and July by some means anyway, correct?

Correct. Orientation is still fun in the sense you get to meet new people, all of whom are committed to Tulane, but it is largely duplication for those who went to Honors Weekend.

I just submitted my deposit today!

I am also questioning orientation, as only one session fits in between graduation and work trip to Haiti. With Honors Weekend scheduling done and four total days spent on campus a couple of weeks ago, a couple of nice connections made, I think we will probably skip it. Would love to do it, but every little bit saved will help when that tuition bill comes. Thanks for the support FC!

Congrats to all who have committed ~ happiness and relief :D

I had fun looking up my son’s professors for the Fall. I think he’s going to love it!

Yay Cheer!!
