Who has committed?

We heard that someone who got in off the waitlist - from LI (relative of a friend)…so they are pulling from that list…guess they didn’t get as many committed as they would have liked…

btw - there is a Tulane NYC meet + greet this Sat. - I guess my son will tell me the details when he gets around to it:)

Bloomy…my D is so bummed she can’t make the meet and greet! Hope they set up another one…maybe in Philly?

D2 not going either! Her birthday is Friday night in NYC and with APs next week it’s just not doable.

Mdndad, your son is going to LOVE Tulane. My freshman son can’t get enough of the music both at Tulane and in NOLA. He’s been taking jazz studies classes, piano lessons, and ensemble and his jazz ensemble just got to play at Jazzfest, with backstage performer passes! If your son has any questions about the music department or anything else about life at Tulane, feel free to PM me, and I’m sure my S would be glad to talk with him.

Okay V…our girls can commiserate together. I told my D to plan another meet and greet in Philly post APs.

So my S went to the meet + greet today - out of the 80 kids who showed interest on facebook, 12 actually showed up. He said it was a good time. They took the subway to the highline , got lunch and walked around. Sounds like they will do it again…

Bloomy- hopefully the next meet and greet will be better attended (after the school year/AP tests, etc.).

what is this page with the 900 students? I am officially going to Tulane and im a little behind on a few things!

So, my son attempted to go to the NYC meet up yesterday. He was under the impression that a bunch of kids were going in early 11am ish, and that they were all meeting for dinner around 5:30. He prearranged to meet with one person at Penn Station at 5:30, but when the two of them got to the meeting point, they could not find anyone else from the group. They facebook messaged and called everyone they knew who had any kind of connection to someone who they thought would be there. As it turns out, only 12 kids showed up, all at 11am and they were long gone by 5:30pm. Thank you so much to Bloomy for answering my PM here on CC with the information. The good news is that he made a great new friend, who he really got to know in the 5 hours that they hung out. The bad news is that she is a distant cousin, so I think that a love connection is out of the question!
So here’s a lesson for the next meet up…make sure you (or your kid) really knows the plan! and get cell phone numbers ahead of time!

newtrierdad plus others that were worried about too large of a Northeast contingent - Northeast still a plurality of the incoming class, but did you see that three of the 4 most represented high schools were in Illinois? Highland Park 15 (the most of any high school), with New Trier and Deerfield tied for third place with 10 students each. Also what Tulane defines as the West Coast, which I think also includes a couple of non-coastal states like AZ and NV, jumped from 11% to 17%.

That’s interesting FC. We live in LA and I’m pretty sure my D is the only one from her high school going there this year with 350 in her class, and there weren’t any last year. Seems like everyone here is content with going to LSU or one of the other state schools which are free tuition if you have decent gpa/act.

This apparently is the first time in Tulane history that Louisiana is not the #1 state. Actually dropped to third, behind California and New York. It would be interesting to know what was more at play here, Tulane’s increasingly positive word-of-mouth everywhere, or the economy pushing more people to take the free/cheap tuition at the state schools.

Chicago rules! I think NOLA needs to get some comfort food for my son and these other kids: Italian Beef, Chicago-style hot dogs and, of course, deep dish pizza. This will ensure they all easily get the “Freshman 20”.

Don’t know about Chicago style, but the DatDog is very popular. One on Freret and one on Magazine. [Dat Dog | Making the world a better place.](http://datdognola.com/)

And this one I had to look up because I had never tried it, but apparently there is a very good Chicago style pizza only a few blocks from the Freret Dat Dog. [Midway Pizza | Home](http://midwaypizzanola.com/)

You are on your own for the Italian Beef, lol.

FC, in our neck of LA, I don’t think the economy has much to do with people not going to Tulane. I think people just don’t care about getting the best education they can so they don’t see the value of paying that much for college when you can get free tuition elsewhere. If you look at any of the more prestigious schools, they don’t have a lot of students from LA and most of them are probably from the NOLA/BR area. Around us, they are all happy going to 13th grade at LA Tech with their friends or to LSU for football and partying.

My husband was born and raised in Chicago and I lived there for several years. We hardly miss the food - embrace the Cajun! However growing up in PA, I am happy for Liberty Cheesesteaks.

Me too, Cyclone! Can’t wait to try Liberty Cheesesteaks! And they don’t shy away from Cheese Wiz, thank God! I"ve never been to Chicago and am visiting soon. If anyone has good restaurant ideas, please PM me.

My own bias is that it has more to do with Tulane getting great word-of-mouth out west. Elsewhere too, of course, but I think it is really taking hold out there. I have read some articles that say the economy is pinching the admissions to more expensive schools, and the for-profits really took a huge hit this year I guess. Down 8.5% if I read the article correctly. The fact that almost all the highly ranked schools that took very few to none off the wait list the past few years have taken a lot more this year also tells me people might be taking high merit offers elsewhere instead, or sticking with the state school. Anyway, I don’t know if these articles have any real evidence or are just drawing the easy conclusion and presenting it as fact. Just fun to talk about, it doesn’t really make that much difference in the case of Tulane. I like seeing the admissions even out somewhat between the East, the Midwest and the West. Just wondering, are you in the Shreveport area?

I have read about the Cheesesteak place in New Orleans. I guess it was started by a couple of Tulane guys? I will definitely have to try it next time I am down there.

Why yes, FC, I am.

They told us when we were at Destination Tulane that Liberty Cheesesteaks was started by a couple of Tulane grads. When we ate there, they could tell I was from Philly because I knew how to order it. haha It was the best one I’ve had outside of the east coast.

Vitrac, I’ll see if dh can make a list of places for you.

yes, Tulane is getting lots of attention out West.

New Orleans/Tulane scores high on being unique… above Nashville, Durham, DC or Boston, maybe if you come from Cali.
