Masterus knows alot about choate and exeter. bring him into this thread.

hahahhaha OHHH NO.

96/4.0/varsity one sport/jv 2nd/debate/paper/lower/church/charity/student council/class president/top day school.exeter 1st choice

Those are your stats, right Francis?

What would you think if someone presented those stats entering for 2010?

Essays and recomendations will be very very important. Whether you have a high ssat or lower ssat, the recs, essays, and interviews will be the deal breakers. imo good luck!

of course, that is why stats are stats.it is likely that one could give poor self assesment of recs, interviews and esays. The posting of that info is likely only self medicating as you have seen with others.thanks for the wish of good fortune.i would like to think luck plays a marginal role.

Just curious...among those who love Exeter and have applied...what sort of communications have you received from PEA over the past few months since, say, first sending in your general information form and the application fee?

Have they been sending you reminders to get your application in? Have they sent you mailings filling you in on exciting news from campus? Have they sent you notes about looking forward to reading your application?

My impression is that they are seriously deficient (or just can't be bothered) in the area of developing prospects compared to other schools that, even with form letters, make applicants feel connected to the school. Or should that be considered a sign when they decide to show a cold shoulder instead of showin' the love like other schools seem to do as a matter of practice?

I think my son felt bad about not sending in an application to schools where the admissions office was super-friendly and hyper-communicative. But I'm not sure that he's even noticed that the Exeter admissions office hasn't been chatty at all. (He's no more of a shoo-in there than anyone is, but he's hardly an automatic rejection, either.)

And to those of you who have Exeter at the top of your list: best wishes to you! March 10 will be here before you know it.

No, it won't. It will be a long, long, long time. Or 47 more days. Whatever you want to call it, if it's not tomorrow, then it's not soon enough!
Exeter sent me a few letters and things, all form letters, of course. Can't remember exactly what.

weird.. i've felt that exeter and andover have been the most hyper-communicative w/ me. exeter sent me a letter from one of their current students from arizona and a thank you not for sending in my general info form and some other stuff.. the other schools haven't been sending much, but that's prob my fault (didn't demonstrate interest in any other schools til late in the process).

My son has applied to Exeter, Andover and GDA ( I guess it is now "the Governors Academy ) Andover and GDA have been great with correspondence, even got a holiday CD with music from GDA and a personal holiday note, and a nice ecard for the holidays from Andover. Nothing from Exeter. Of course my son's first choice is Exeter....( they always go for those ones playing " hard to get" ;) Actually, my older son is a senior at Exeter, so I think it may be because it is the school he is most familiar with.

We have gotten several letters from coaches / teachers and general -- current parent introspective musings.

I think I remember getting a LOT of letters AFTER my first son was accepted, but not before, but four years ago seems like a loooooonnng time ago! ;)

exeter is now my numero uno choice
btw wat is oranges and apples have to do with andover and exeter?

I like exeter too , but since I'm not applying to any prep schools I started this thread with a line/scene from the movie Trading Places. It proves that good exchange can be prompted even with a goofy opening premise.the conclusion is that the real applicant/parent/observer will key into the name of the school regardless of the content of the original post.Interesting .

Student at Andover, but I have admit that Exeter Academy is a great school. My little sister applied to there and she really wants to go. :( I didn't really want to get her hopes up because it's highly competitive. She probably got the best recommendations with many interests and an A+ student but how many others applying are able to match that? Probably too many for my mind to handle, but she is applying for freshman year so I think that increases her chances somewhat...

Good luck to your sister! :)

Bump for chaos

Heeeeeey. How's it goin'. :)

bump bump bump
