did anyone else interpret umich's EC portion of the app as an indication that they don't really care much about ECs?

no, i didn't take it that way. they are a huge school with one of the largest applicant pools in the country. they don't have time to read laundry lists of activities, so they either want your most imp ones or a clear, concise resume of them. that's what i thought anyway...

blackpen: in-state or OOS.

My app was complete 10/8, 3.8 GPA, 32 ACT. Should I get psyched for tomorrow?

While UM is certainly trying to maintatin their historic level of diversity, undoubtedly Prop 2 will take it down a notch. As stated earlier, they are attempting to circumvent Prop 2 by using a program that identifies students by under-represented geographic regions, socio-economic status and parental education status. The major scholarship program tied to this effort is the Michigan Tradition Scholarship. While this will help maintain diversity, there is little question that UM will have less URM representation on campus (examine what happened at Berkley after a similar measure passed in California). For instance, three people (white, female) from our area received $10K a year Tradition scholarship last year. We are in-state, in a rural farm community. While not affluent, this area is definitely solidly middle class. There is no question in my mind that this money would have been directed to URM's before the passage of Proposal 2.
