umm, well that's false, because by state law they are required to accept a certain number of applicants from in-state.

well this years stats so far show that they do. but wouldn't that be a nice thought, as my admission chances would go from zero to 6%.

Thanks vc08 and SubmachineNips for the information

I was marked OOS by their residency, but I got in and got nominated for honors.

Couple of days ago I got an email inviting into the honors college which requires another dreadful essay. :(

Terrible topics. I almost feel like not responding to it.

then don't lol...

How did it tell you that you were accepted? When I check my application status, it doesn't really say anything (such as whether they are reviewing my app and making a decision, etc.), it just shows my general information.

It will have a "view decision" link right next to the "View Application Data" or whatever on the front page of your wolverine access. It's really obvious, so if you don't see it they don't have a decision yet.

they recieved my materials on oct 23
and i sent in the online app oct 18
when can i expect to hear back?

also
do they release decisions in batches (ie nov 9th)
or are they gradually releasing them (is there a point in continuing to check on the website)?

i believe they release them in batches, but you could possibly start checking beginning the 20th. Mine was supposed to be released on the 9th, but i got it on the 8th. If they received it on the 23rd, i'd say you're a good candidate for this next release cycle (nov. 23rd), if not then then Dec. 7th.

ok thank you
im so nervous!
do they email you? also does anyone know their acceptance rate?
im really worried and i want to get in so bad
i am oos does that hurt me?

acceptance rates are just below 50% for LSA, around 60% for engineering. Engineering is fairly harder to get into though, just the applicant pool also happens to be smaller and stronger. OOS is really not a problem for mich as you might think--like at berkeley it kills you, but Umich takes a good deal of OOS students. Average stats are a little higher, but you pay them a ****load more, so that evens it out.

just an fyi: a friend of mine (in-state, if it matters) got her acceptance yesterday. app completed during the last week of oct. so i dunno if umich really releases decisions in batches ..

i submitted my app on october 30th and i finally got my U-M id today.. the email says to wait at least 2 weeks from today to check my app. so then that means i shouldn't even bother to check november 23? and can i even make a wolverine account before november 28?

stats (if they help)
OOS
ACT - 33
UMICH GPA - 3.9
many ECs, awards and honors, and community service

yeah im not sure if they release them in batches but i keep checking the website
my gpa is a low but everything else is really good
i completed it on oct 23 so hopefully next friday?
if anyone knows for sure about the batches let me nknow

hello,

anyone going to michigan in winter 2008? cause I am. enrolled in college of LSA, and I'm an international student. looking forward to meet new people. :)

cheers

vc08

what state law are you refering to? Two times I've heard it......in-state no different than out-of-state.

What do you know that I don't know?

browninfall: i don't have time right now, but i'll look it up this weekend. every state that i know of has a law where they are req'd to accept a certain % of students from in-state, bc those residents pay taxes for the public schools. that's why at colleges like Cal, UVA, UNC, and Michigan, the acceptance rate for OOS students is lower (or could be the same, as in Cal, but with a smaller and much more self-selected pool).

Michigan complies with this rule, my regional counselor has just verified it. I believe the admit rate for OOS students is around 35%, compared with 47% for the combined university.

Also, keep in mind that the OOS pool is much more self-selecting, in that the ACT/GPA averages are generally higher (in many cases significantly) than those accepted in-state.

D was accepted! It's on Wolverine access today.
