Who has modified their main essay in an alternate version?

For the first time this year, the CA is posting a note saying that the main essay should be the same for all schools and that school specific information should be provided in supplements only. This can be difficult, particularly for transfer students who have a different main essay. I'm trying to figure out if this is just a comment about what the CA thinks, or whether they are actually locking the main essay in all versions sent.

So, I'd appreciate hearing from people who have actually submitted the CA to a school, have then created an alternate version (including changes to the main essay) and sent the alternate to another school. I've done a Search, but if there's a thread I'm missing with this information, please post a link.

Thanks! EM

On my alternate version, the personal statement is not transferred from the first CA version.

Ah, so you actually have to upload it again, and so you could put in any essay you want.

Yep (10 char)

Great thank you both very much!

For years I’ve been telling students that it’s fine to write college specific essays, but this year with the new CA notification, I was afraid I was giving bad information and that people might be stuck with the first essay they submitted. It’s a relief to know that it’s just the CA sticking their nose where it doesn’t belong.

I sent one commonapp essay to my first school, and for my second school I used that essay as a supplemental and uploaded a different commonapp essay. I don’t even remember any notification warning not to do it.

congrats irony!!!
yayyyy

I submitted the ca to one school, I want to change my essay for a different school, when I look at the essay it just has a view document button, not a delete how do I change it?
