^ Lmao! That’s awesome. That reminds me of when we had to write BS essays in high school that were pretty much just busy work assignments. One time my friend put in a completely random sentence in the middle of the paper that had nothing to do with the subject and he got an A and the teacher never noticed cause he didn’t actually read them . . .

yeah a lot of people just focus their essays on UCLA or Berkeley. if you only applied to SD i’m pretty sure you could write just about anything

The reason why you have to write essays for the UC app is that certain universities (UCLA, UCB, UCI and probably a couple others) have comprehensive reviews, meaning they go through all your EC/essays and incorporate that information into the decision making process for whether or not you’ll be admitted.

UCSD does not have a comprehensive review, thus they don’t look at any of that.

My friend wrote an essay a couple years ago saying how much he hated writing essays and they let him in (he was TAG.) They literally will not even so much as open the essay.

~3.75

My counselor said essays pretty much don’t matter except at UCLA or CAL; although, if you are a “borderline” student, they will check your essay. And as for the definition of “borderline,” it’s up to you depending on your major.

Good luck.

UCSD will not look at your essays. Period. They do not have a comprehensive review process.

fenris, weren’t u the one who kept insisting that the new housing message was a strong indicator because u read 111 pages from last year’s thread or something like that? way to talk without knowing…

In all fairness, the housing message we now have is different than the one that was changed for everyone who has been admitted, and it apparently changed for all of us.

Everyone who got the old housing message change got admitted.

We’re in wait and see mode with the new one.

this is so weird, because I had my housing message change when it actually meant something…and a couple days ago it went back to the old housing message, and then went back to the new housing message. Not to mention that my application status went from a 3 paragraph to just one sentence…What’'s going on UCSD!

ucbio, what does ur new app status say?

@UC_Bio, we are in the same boat!

What i love more than anything is people saying “great essays” when reporting their stats. You’re kidding me right? How could you possibly know if your essay is a great essay in comparison to the thousands of others? I have no idea how good my essay was. I mean, to me it was very good, but it’s not my opinion that counts. Oh and to add the icing to the cake, it seems like UCSD doesn’t even read the essays, or at least they don’t put that much emphasis on them.

the new housing message is a different one from the old “new” housing message. learn to read.

…

@ fenris, your words:

It changed from:

“Records indicate you cannot sign up etcetc Please contact the village”

to

“Please come back May 2”

Obviously not direct quotes as I don’t want to go look, but this has been the same since last year. There hasn’t been a deviation.
Fenris is online now

maybe u dont remember, but u clearly repeated many times that this new housing message was a strong indicator.
