I sent my application in at about 5:00 on the 31st. Lafayette is my top choice, but not enough for me to apply ED. It's going to be a long wait, so I was thinking this could a discussion thread for Lafayette-hopefuls. I will post my stats, and anyone that wants to is encouraged to as well!

SAT I: 1980 (640 CR, 690 M, 650 W)
SAT II: 720 Math II, 750 Biology E

Lafayette’s my top choice too… (unless I get into a ridiculous reach school)

My school doesn’t rank…
Major - Engineering Undecided (but I’m drifting towards electrical)

Hey AqueousView11… maybe we’ll be in a class together next year :o

I applied to Lafayette RD. It’s my number two school behind Notre Dame. Here’s what I got

SAT I: 2060 (650 CR, 760 M, 650 W)
SAT II: 800 Math II, 790 Chem, 720 US

Unweighted GPA: 98.69
Class Rank: 1/299
Major: Chemical Engineering

Comuniello36, you should get in no problem as long as your essays, recommendations, and EC are good.

On the site it says that subject tests are recommended, but the admissions officer I spoke with told me that she personally doesn’t even look at them. Have you guys heard anything else about this?

Honestly I took the subject test because it was required by another school I’m applying to…

I remember reading on Lafayette’s website that they recommend engineering majors to take a math and science subject tests so it can’t hurt… (maybe they use the scores for class placement after admissions, but not the admissions process itself)

That’s a good point, and they do say that on the website, but I would have assumed that my score of the BC Calc exam will determine class placement.

So why did you guys choose Lafayette as one of your top choices? For me, it was the top ranked engineering program within a classic liberal arts college.

I applied RD. Lafayette is one of my top schools. I am hoping for Marquis…

SAT I: 2070 (670 CR, 700 M, 700 W) I did not send…
SAT II: 720 Math I, 790 US History
ACT: 34 (34 E, 35 M, 34 R, 33 S)
Unweighted GPA: 4.0
Class Rank:1/282
Major: Chemical Engineering

Lafayette is my top choice tied with a couple others.

SAT I: 1980 (650 CR, 610 M, 720 W)
SAT II: 690 World History
Weighted GPA: 4.0
Unweighted GPA: 3.4
Class Rank: Top 35%
Major: Economics (first non-engineering to post haha)

My GPA is admittedly low, but I’m hoping my rigorous senior year courses and unique essay, recommendations and extracurriculars will make up for it.

Hey we have the same SAT score! I wish I had received at least at 2000, and looking back I should have studied for the SAT, but what’s done is done. I don’t think Lafayette puts a lot of weight on standardized test scores as long as they are past a certain threshold. On the other hand, if you have excellent scores that will be an undeniable advantage. At the open house, the admissions woman I spoke with told me that rigor of courses taken is the most important factor in admissions.

On a side note, for those who use the 4.0 scale, how does that work? Do you merely muliply by 25 to get your average out of 100 or is it more complicated than that?

My son applied to Laf RD. It is/was his #3 favorite. But, as it turns out, his outside scholarship won’t be usable there. So, he probably won’t enroll if admitted. Stats are as follows:

My son submitted his common app on Dec 11 and submitted the final piece, the supplement, in the last week of Dec. He hasn’t yet received any login id to check application status. Web site says they will send login in snail mail. Anyone know how long it usually takes, since submitting the common app, to receive this login id. I hope they weren’t waiting for all items to be submitted before mailing out the login id that enables my son to check his application status. The online check helps track if any material is missing.

On a side note, for those who use the 4.0 scale, how does that work? Do you merely muliply by 25 to get your average out of 100 or is it more complicated than that?

I applied ED to lafayette and I really really regret my decision now. But I have been deferred, so still have hopes for RD. Now almost everyone from my country will be applying Lafa this time (around 15-20) guys, so neck-throat competition.

I applied RD too!
