Union is one of my top choices along with Lafayette, which is VERY similar to Union IMO. It's going to be a long wait, so I was thinking this could a discussion thread for Union-hopefuls. I will post my stats, and anyone that wants to is encouraged to as well!

SAT I: Didn't submit
SAT II: Didn't submit
ACT: Didn't submit
Unweighted GPA: 97.27
Weighted GPA: N/A (my school doesn't weight grades)
Class Rank: 6/457
Major: Electrical Engineering

AqueousView11, Did you apply to all the schools I’m applying too… :P

Yeah… Union and Lafayette seemed very similar when I visited…

SAT - 2020 (740M, 630 CR, 650W)
SAT II - 740 Math II
ACT - Still waiting for December scores
UW GPA - 3.54/4
My school doesn’t rank…
Major - Engineering Undecided (but I’m drifting towards electrical)

Why didn’t you submit your SAT scores? You are diffidently above Union’s 50 percentile. I was told I was when I interviewed in November.

btw… I have a friend who got into Union ED with a 3.7 gpa, legacy status, and a 1500 SAT (which she didn’t submit)… like Lafayette I think we both have a good chance to get in.

dfnj123, haha yeah it seems as though we are… I am also applying to Villanova, RPI, Northeastern, Clarkson, and SUNY Binghamton, but I have a feeling that it’s going to come down to Union and Lafayette. That is, if I get accepted at either school.

Regarding standardized testing, here is quote from their website:

I took this as you should only submit standardized test scores if they strengthen your application, or show something else about you. Neither of these is applicable to me, for many of my peers in the top of my class have much higher SAT scores. I never studied for them, I never took the time to understand them, and I’ve never had a knack for them. If I wanted to go to an Ivy I would have studied my #$% off, but I don’t want to go to a college that I have to have high standardized test scores to gain acceptance because I don’t believe in standardized tests. I think my transcript will give a great representation of my motivation, intelligence, and academic success. For others, standardized tests are a strength and should be submitted. At Union, you have the option to decide.

I just scanned the website for a class profile: Union at a Glance The middle 50% SAT for admitted students is 1980–my score. My interviewer thought it was a fine idea that I wasn’t submitting scores.

rodney, thanks! It’s interested how I have become so interested in Union recently. I chose to apply there in the first place because it’s 20 minutes from my house, I am friends with alumni and current students, and its ABET accredited engineering program is strong. But, after visiting and interviewing Union, it is my top choice behind Lafayette. In case anyone isn’t aware, the Wold Center is currently in construction. This building will house interdisciplinary studies and research. The section of my building that piqued my interest is the Phasor Lab, which will be home to electrical engineering and music research. For me, it’s almost too good to be true. I now believe that my heart lies in these small liberal arts colleges that offer engineering. Here is the little 500 character max. short answer that I wrote for the Lafayette supplement:

Not my best writing, but it shows my genuine interest IMO.

^^ daughter has both schools on her short list, although Union (because of test optional) is much more appealing to her…havent visited yet though (only a junior)…

fwiw, I think that Lafayette is the next candidate to go test optional; they are already rolling ED (like some other test optional schools)…but who knows…good luck with both!!

i’m an international student from Vietnam, but I studied in Singapore.

SAT1: 1950 (580CR ) -submitted
SAT2: Maths2 790, Chem 780 - submitted
I have a few nationally recognized academic achievements.

what i feel worried now is that Union requires TOEFL from intl students which I don’t have. I always thought that since I completed the secondary education in a english-medium school, toefl would be waived for me…

My son also just applied from Hong Kong. UK educated with 2 A grades and 1 B grade at A level (also 12 GCSEs - 3A*, 6A, 2B, 1C) and was enrolled into a top 5 UK university but hated the set-up. Union is one of his top choices. No idea what his chances are though.

International from Cental/Eastern Europe.
Double major in math and economics.
37 or 38 predicted IB pts, soccer varsity, good ECs, great recs but I applied for FA. When will decisions be out?
