Who here has not gotten COVID? Who has long COVID?

Dentists and hygienists were well masked and face shielded even before COVID-19…

It is not too surprising that senior care facilities are more likely to want masks, given the vulnerability of the population living there.

In my locality in NYC metro area, I’d say about 10% of people are masking – in supermarkets, on public transit, etc. I do.

Still haven’t had it. But I’m expecting to get it in early December 2023. I have a wedding exactly 14 days after Thanksgiving day.

Hope the new version of the bivalent? vaccination is coming out in the fall just in time for the holidays.

Next version of the vaccine is likely to be monovalent for XBB.1.5 from Pfizer, Moderna, and Novavax in the fall.

Funny you should mention glaucoma care settings. I just brought my 90 y/o mother to the Mass Eye and Ear for her quarterly pressure check. I think all the medical staff were wearing masks though patients and care givers/family members were not required to do so .

Husband and I still have not caught COVID to the best of our knowledge. But brother and SIL are finishing up an Alaska cruise, and she has it after testing due to coughing and feeling “pretty sore.” She is “on Paxlovid and confined to cabin with special room service menu and wine gratis.” They will be escorted off the ship in Vancouver before other passengers tomorrow and their direct to airport reservations were cancelled. So they’ll take a cab to the airport and hang around for four hours until their flight home.

I believe they’re normally very cautious - he has CLL and is immunocompromised, and she had a mastectomy and replacement a few years back. They probably masked inside but posted unmasked pictures on deck surrounded by others. This is the same brother who came back from a Hawaii trip last year with a cough that turned out to be a sinus infection, stopped to visit us on the way home, and likely was the cause of my first ever case of pneumonia. So maybe they really don’t protect themselves as thoroughly as I thought.

Wondering if we will get it in Europe. Barcelona was very crowded! We’ll see!

I just came back from Barcelona, with very long and crowded immigration. We ate both outdoor and indoor. All of us came back healthy.

I went to our London office right after the Barcelona trip. The office was packed in open space and no mask.

Hmmm, seems like the cruise ship does not want a possible spreader event in the ship and whatever airport transfer it normally offers, but is ok with the COVID passengers possibly spreading it to the taxi driver and people in the airport?

(Perhaps a taxi driver called to the cruise ship dock to take passengers to the airport may realize the reason and put up “mask required” signs before the pickup.)

Yeah, thought about that too. Apparently the cruise line’s responsibility will end at the gang plank, so to speak. But not sure what else they could do; Canada has no more requirements. I know brother and SIL will be be thoroughly masked with top level equipment

I was very careful and dodged Covid until this February and now have post Covid POTS which will be chronic. Some days I struggle to get up in the morning, so I really hope your family members will wear a well fitting N 95 mask while at the airport and plane.

I’m so sorry to hear this. Hopefully it will turn out to be manageable eventually.

For everyone’s knowledge, were you vaccinated? Did. you take Paxlovid? Metformin? How do you think you got it?

It’s really not possible to 100% defend against it. We can only do our best.

I had 3 Pfizer and 1 Moderna vaccines. I wasn’t considered high risk and initially didn’t feel that sick, I had mild fever and sore throat so I didn’t take any medication. It was day 10 when my the POTS started. I would get really dizzy on standing, short of breath with HR going from 80 sitting to 190 standing. Since February I have also lost 30 pounds (I believe it’s an increased metabolic rate due to high heart rates)
I can’t know for sure where I got it but I turned positive 3 days after my work lifted the masking requirements

Thank you for sharing your story. Hate to hear these stories, but we need to to remind us that Covid doesn’t always come and leave carefree.

Hope you can manage ok.

Brother tested positive this morning with no symptoms. About ten hours until they’re home so crossed fingers. Because of his CLL, he’s had every kind of vaccination and specialty drugs allowed so hoping that’s working in his system to protect him. He had a respirator mask that goes on and beyond N95. I’m sure they will do all possible to protect all around them.

My D and I wore KNs in the airport and on a 2 hour flight in early June. Maybe 2 other people on the flight wore them. I figure it is no big deal to wear one so why not. But I did stop wearing them at the grocery store and restaurants, etc. in the spring.

We do still test before we see my very immunocompromised MIL.

Still dragging myself around and taking way too many NSAID for joint pain. I have an appointment with a rheumatologist at the end of August (earliest I could get with my insurance; on the list for an earlier one if there’s a cancellation), and requested one from the long-covid clinic since autoimmune disorders are on the long list of post-Covid symptoms. Ugh, ugh, ugh.

I am so sorry you are going through this @oldmom4896 !

On the plus side, H believes he had had covid in Feb/mar 2020, before there were tests and Paxlovid. He was pretty ill for a week. He never felt he fully recovered. He’s taking paxlovid and feels some of his long term symptoms are finally improving. He still felt pretty poorly after his 5 days of Paxlovid so he’s continuing for another 4 days p, since we have it available. I’m glad his long term symptoms are FINALLY improving.
