who here is sick of the young democrats thing?

personally i am... not because i think it's a bad thing, but kids do it so they seem cool, some people that participate make an effort because they care, but the greater majority do it because... well... it seems being liberal right now is cool... and instead of public service, it's become a youth group for insecure teens... to those of you who do participate in it and care, i'm very sorry, but ur peers are well... not... into it...

i am conservative btw... not that that matters, in fact i think it's a very just cause... to take in interest in your countries political affairs...

Our generation, gen y/echo-boomers, are primarily conservative, so I would guess that being "conservative" is "in" and that your generalization is just that--a generalization--and a poor one at that.

"Our generation, gen y/echo-boomers, are primarily conservative"
when has the youngest generation ever been politically comservative. Maybe when compared to other generations at our age but practically all teenagers are liberal. At least 80% of college kids are liberal. Just look at the statistics of who they vote for. Or just ask people you know. I live in a very conservative area and still all the kids are liberal.

Honestly, what I've found out is, if you're conservative it seems that being liberal is a fad. If you're liberal, it seems conversative is a fad. Either side of the spectrum, you're screwed.

There are fakes on both sides though. Thank MTV and the rest of pop culture for that.

My cousin, who has a doctorate in sociology, told me this. I also heard this on NPR and, later, my history teacher.

I'm guessing you're going off intuition?

I like to consider myself a centrist... and at my school, the young conservatives do nothing, and the young democrats are too freaking liberal. They were trying to organize groups to go around ripping down Bush signs. I don't like Bush, and liked Kerry a lot more, but that's just dumb...

If wanting to help people who can't help themselves is now cool, then I'm really happy society has finally got it right.

You.......... ...Republican! :) Naw, I don't care, feel how you want about it.

I don't like the labels of the parties. I think both parties are full of idiots. While I mostly support democrats and liberals, I've been known to lean quite right at times.

It is kinda idiotic that people support other people just because of the name... not because of beliefs.

Completely agree with Superior. While I personally am a liberal, I am politically active and have my reasons to despise the current administration. My economic beliefs are liberal and my social beliefs are very liberal (except on affirmative action and the death penalty).

The party system is a nice way to designate general trends, but everyone has different opinions on all issues. I think having a party system is a good idea as a way to center majority groups, but it is obviously not perfect. If we didn't have a party system we would have people from all backgrounds joining specific factions for certain causes and the entire political system would be thrown into disarray.

People need to stop being ignorant (no one on these boards, but just as a general comment) and in particular those who just say "Down with Bush!" and when questioned can give no reason for the hatred.

I probably go to one of the most liberal high schools in the nation and have adopted many of those values, but only after research. It is truly time that this nation started educated the youth on politics and matters that are important: health care, education, taxes, the environment, etc. Hopefully others will join in this fight to educate.

well put (10 characters)

That is one thing that I believe is essential in political elections, being informed. Too many Americans go to the booths only voting for the person they see more on TV. I also believe that schools should dedicate a temperary course on political elections and candidates' positions.

what is the gay state?

I was wondering the same thing? Is it Cali?

Lol, it's Massachusetts, the Bay State. MA has probably the biggest controversy with the gay marriage "issue". I wouldn't expect anyone here to know that (my location, that is), I just couldn't think of a location so I just had to use an insider.

At my school, people act. Those of us who care get things done. I, too, believe that being informed is critical. It is your civic duty to stay current with politics.

Now, not to incite a flame war (this is only one post), but I find it sincerely funny that some conservatives believe progressive movements to be fad-driven. You make social justice and equality sound shortsighted and selfish. Having a vested interest in preserving a crumbling empire of patriarchal ignorance, on the other hand, is a noble cause.

And that sure was a good idea Superior Child24. I think I may have to steal it now, having seen it brought up for a second time. Check for my location soon. ; )

well... i'm not trying to offend any of you, it just seems in my area, the young democrats go too far, it isn't fulfilling any duty by shoving papers under people's doors... and it's ok if your ideology differs from my own, just don't shove it upon me like it's the holy doctrine... not any of you... kids at my school...

I hate Conservatives...I also hate independents...what a cop-out....Democrats for life!

Being a Democrat is not a fad because the majority of youth are conservative.

Yeah - it's only "fadish" because a lot of celebs are openly progressive. and you can tell that MTV leans dem a lot too.

I'm a registered Democrat and I plan to volunteer a lot of my time for local elections to the NJ State Assembly this upcoming year. I have a lot of interest in politics, though my biochem major intention wouldnt show it. I'm very progressive on economic issues, but actually quite moderate on social issues. Whatever college I plan to go to I plan to be an active member of the local College Dems (and maybe leader of that someday) so I figure I need some campaign experience to bolster my chances. :)
