How many people were accepted to the school that were reaches to them? Or worse, rejected from the schools that were matches to them? My friend was accepted into UCLA but rejected from Cal Poly SLO which really seems odd to me. Are the UCs really that random as people state they are?

UC uses 2 methods to choose their new freshman class

pulls applicants out of a big hat

throws all applications down a couple stairs and the ones facing up are admitted.

lol to above.

Maybe the match school thought your friend was too well qualified and would end up going to a school better than it? A preemptive rejection, maybe? I dunno.

lol etti.. the way people describe the uc admissions, i wouldnt be surprised

I was admitted to Brown and Penn with a 2.9 HS GPA but rejected from UChicago and UT Plan II Honors. My standardized scores got me in at those schools.

ucberkeley admissions I kno for a fact are that random, they have so many qualified applicants that they actually just pick some for arbitrary reasons

dearsiryes, are you a URM?

lol then i hope berkeley and la would randomly pick me then.

Nah, I'm not a URM. I think I'm a ORM (over)-South Asian. But I have a 1600 and 2400 and 13 5s on APs. I guess that's what pushed me over.
