just curious...

the what program?

who was in gifted..who was gifted. you know, the gifted and talented program????

There is a program like that in Columbia?

r u talking about GATE...everybody joins that in second grade right?

No....its for elementary, middle school, and a little in high school. You guys have never heard of that--You need to get tested to be in it ( IQ of 130 or higher) and then (besides in high school), practically all of your classes, or main academic ones ( english, science, and social studies in the case of middle school) are all gifted classes and you're only with other students in gifted. Its like above honors classes..., but you have to be actually in the program, not just like I want to take a gifted class.

I was in a gifted program for elementary school then I went to a magnet HS.

It wasnt that big of a deal

I was/am in GT or GATE (for u cali kids). When we were in elementary + junior high, it was so awesome because we were exposed to these higher level concepts and got to do fun projects (of course, it was fun to ppl that were in the program, if GT wasn't your thing, they would just appear tedious). In junior high and even in first two years of high school, it got a little annoying if you were in all GT classes because you'd see the same kids in every class (lol, even today, the GT kids date within the group...seems almost like a rotation kinda thing) - they were cream of the crop of course, but when I dropped out of GT history into an Honors World history class, it was a very different environment, but a rewarding experience regardless- I didnt feel shafted just because I "dropped" from a GT class into PreAP.

I must admit being labeled GT has one ..heh, fruity advantage- ppl naturally give you more pennies for your thought - even if it's total BS (though if u're identified as "gifted" you were probably blessed with that innate talent anyway...)

hahah yay for GATE.

you can apply for Mensa.
i'm trying to use my IQ score from back in the day to apply.
the cutoff is like 130 for the Stanford Benet 5.

It's called Humanities at my school, but I've also heard it called GE (Gifted Education) and MG (Mentally Gifted)

I was in a "Challenge" program in elementary school and was put two years ahead in math, but nothing called "Gifted."

I went to a private school, no such thing...

Anyways, any of you take the CAT test? What are your thoughts on the CAT test?

I'm from Canada...I'm in Ontario's version of the gifted and talented program, also known as the "gifted program." There were basic math/sci/hist/geography classes in gr 9&10 for the gifted kids, but that's basically all the perks of being gifted. I had to take 2 tests in gr 8 in order to be accepted, one was a knowledge test (sorta like the SAT's), and then an IQ test.

I wasn't... I have classes with most of them though, if not all of them. I get A+'s when they struggle to get A's. You tell me if the programs works.

lol...yea...I was in Gifted (aka "Discovery") in elementary school then I went to a Magnet school in the 5th grade...THEN I came back to regular school and was in the IMPACT/Gifted program and I'm still in it...

Here in Minnesota there are lots of names/euphemisms for "gifted" in public schools, such as "high potential," or "enhanced learning," but hardly any coherent program that lasts all through school. That's one reason my family homeschools: WE design the program to meet our kids' needs.
