Who is Applying ED?

Hey Yall!

I just wanted to start a thread for anyone that thinks they will be applying Early Decision to Northwestern this fall. I'm planning on it! Go Wildcats!

I am, if my upcoming visit goes well! My heart is pretty set on NU already though.

ME!!! I do need to get my ACT score up first though… I’ve already visited and plan to schedule an overnight stay with a current student over my fall break for the fun of it.

@austere for the overnight stay, would that be through admissions, or a student you know that attends? It sounds like fun!

ME!!! All’s left is taking one more SAT II subject and convincing my parents I do NOT want to ED Upenn… Easier said than done.

My parents want me to go to UPenn too but I think I want to ED northwestern. Does anyone have any doubts at all? I feel like if I even slightly like another school, then I shouldn’t ED.

@Mocheng it’s cool to see someone in the same boat as me. Northwestern’s ED rate is a lot higher than Upenn’s too…I just think it’d be so great to get into NU early and be content for the rest of my senior year!

NU’s acceptance rate for ED is comparable to UPenn’s rate.

Mocheng, I applied ED last year, and I had changed my mind about what school I wanted to go to probably at least 30 times (not exaggeration, or at least not much). There’s something about actually applying to schools that starts helping you set your mind on something. Once I found NU, looked up a TON of information (read posts here, College *******, the Daily, North by Northwestern, looked up pictures on Flickr, etc.), I started setting my mind on it, and eventually decided for sure on ED. I’m not saying the same would happen for you, but you’ve still got some months to decide, and the most you can do is research until you know you’re either not sure, or definitely sure.

@texasteen Sorry for the delayed response! School started on the first and the teachers sure are keeping me busy! It’s through the admissions office. If you contact then like a week in advance then they’ll find a current undergraduate student for you to stay the night with to give you a taste of what it’s like to be a wildcat. If you google overnight visit at NU you’ll find it’ll!

Thanks @austere! And yes many times i have really doubted my decision to go ED. Northwestern has everything i want in a school- minus the freezing cold- i’m a texas gal! But i have a match, and a safety that i would be so happy to go to if northwestern doesn’t work out!

@ceyago and @mocheng i totally feel yall on the UPenn! My both of my grandpas went there and so do my cousins so i have a ton of family pressure! When i went to the info session i was so intimidated. The amount of people equaled the size of my graduating class! The whole stigma of an ivy league is so terrifying. Vying for 1,500 spots with 30,000 people scares me.

Yes for both schools ED is a huge factor!

Texasteen, I’m from South Carolina. If I can manage it, it won’t be that much worse for you! I wouldn’t really worry about it. Think of it this way; you can have midnight snowball fights, come back home and talk about them, and your friends will say, “What’s snow?”

@crimsonstained7 Haha so true!

I’m trying to do an overnight, but the dates for IONs aren’t up yet…I wish they were, seeing as I have to fly half-way across the country and need to do it with plenty of time left over to re-do my Why Northwestern? Essay for ED.

^^what are IONs?

Individual Overnight (ION) visits!

I think I’m going to apply early. It’s kind of a reach for me and I still need to bring up my test scores. I’m also applying to the journalism school-I heard it’s the most competitive.

What do you guys think about visiting? I live pretty far away and I don’t want that to ruin my chances if I don’t get my name down in admissions…

I think this school cares a lot about showing interest… The supplement has multiple questions about visiting and information sessions. I live in NY and I visited.
