who is applying to chicago?

just curious who on this board is applying to chicago.

Probably every transfer student posting of the Chicago Board.

there aren't really any posts from prospective transfers on the Chicago board...

I sent my application in on the 28th of February (mailed a few components the day before) - early because it's my first choice and because I can't stand the wait!

I am. UChicago is my 1st choice.

cool. i'm a current chicago ug, hoping to transfer out of here. hopefully what you're after is in line with what chicago offers. stereotypes there may be about the u of c, but all too often they hit dead on the mark.

i got into chicago last year, hopefully i get in again

not worth it, imo

It's all about priorities and what your looking for. I guess we should be thankful for those transfering out so theres more room for us...but I don't know if that affects our chances. gl where ever you end up at.

I am applying to Chicago, probably my first choice.

meyer1b, I can definitely understand why you want to leave... I still sometimes second-guess myself for applying to Chicago. I'm quite happy where I am right now for many amazing reasons, but I feel like the academics aren't up to my expectations. Though Chicago will be tough, I'd almost rather suffer under a giant workload than have a good time whilst feeling like my brain is regressing.

i was going to. not so sure any more. might on a whim send an application on 04/01.

Same. Since only 75 students are admitted as a transfer student each year, I'm guessing applying via the RD route would make it even more difficult?

I believe around 125 students are admitted, and around 75 matriculate.

Hey meyer,

Where do you think you're headed? I actually transferred out of a similar school (Columbia - College) to Dartmouth. Best decision I ever made.

brown, penn, columbia and cornell. I actually wish I applied to D too but now its kind of late. I think it will be pretty difficult; my average is between B+/A-.

my reason is that they wanted me to retake the SAT because it was taken before i had a break from school. i am in no mood for that. anyhow, i got mugged during the first 15 minutes of my stay in chicago. pretty much the only places i enjoyed there were michigan avenue and the navy pier.

i'm almost definitely going to, but i still have some slight reservations... so, meyerb, could you elaborate about the "stereotypes"?

Meyer, I'd throw in a D app if its not too late. I was split between Brown and Dartmouth as a transfer, but chose Dartmouth because it might have the best transfer experience in the country. Seriously its amazing how well transfers assimilate (sophomore summer you meet your class, quarter system so easy study abroad (i went twice), awesome orientation, the best housing, special transfer advising, etc). They make it feel like home, beyond that Dartmouth is one of the most amazing college experiences in the country. shiny happy fun people who are brilliant but don't wear it on their sleeve. But Brown is seriously amazing too.

Also, Columbia might have one of the worst transfer experiences in the country. Horrible housing, no cafeteria, hard to meet people, no social scene etc all make it difficult.

meyer, u can have my spot at cornell, no joke....

Is the social life at Columbia really lacking? I'm looking for a place with better community than Chicago...
