Who is considering weather in their college choice?

Not unless they’re spending billions of dollars every year on heat. The indoor temperature depends on how warm it is outside. In the dead of winter, it’s unlikely that buildings will be heated beyond 65 degrees. 70 is usually considered the reasonable indoor temperature. Now, all that depends on your definition of t-shirt weather, but for me, that’s chilly without slippers and a jacket.

HELL YES!

I’d hate to go to school in the Northeast because the weather is awful.

The main schools that I’d like to look at are Georgetown, Wake Forest, Emory, Swarthmore, and Princeton… unfortunately, my dislike for the cold has eliminated many of the spectacular New England LACs :(

^^^ To be fair, a lot of people wear T-shirts to school in the winter while I’m shivering with an extra long-sleeved layer. It all depends on your own body temperature and tolerance for cold.

I’m not. In my youth I lived in extremely humid and insufferably hot areas as well as traditional white-Christmas type places. I figure I can survive almost anywhere that has central heating. But then I’m kind of reckless about going out in cold weather without proper attire.

As others have said, I haven’t even glanced at southern schools because I hate summer. As a native New Englander (and I guess Nordic descent), I love having a very mild summer and snow on the ground all winter. A ten degree day is not bad at all from my perspective.

Climate is important because if you think about it, it will be a big part of your daily life in college. Thinking big picture: it shouldn’t keep you from going to your dream school. But it should be a consideration.

I’m refusing to consider anywhere warm but I’m kind of rethinking that since I live in the D.C. metro area… but I really hate hot weather even more than cold.

Well, Mid-Atlantic heat is a special kind of heat. A really sticky kind. I love the heat; I can’t stand the humidity. Also, in the Mid-Atlantic, we basically go immediately from heat to AC. I can’t live in a place without AC! I only like the heat if I can go inside to someplace cool. If K remembers, I was practically dying on our trip to Scripps in Southern CA!

^Hehe, and I loved the Scripps weather. I don’t like the Mid-Atlantic’s humidity/AC dichotomy… I prefer not-overwhelming, sunny, dry warmth all the time, because my body adjusts to the temperature.

It was definitely a consideration in choosing where to apply. I currently live in New Jersey and absolutely hate the cold weather. I wont even consider attending a college anywhere near me for that reason. I was pretty set in my decision before this horrible winter and now I’m definite.
