I AM

going to the third orientation! :)

that was funny!

haha owned.

i'm going to jul 28,29

I'm going too, sincerestudent.

AIM: cavalier302

BTW, have you made a preliminary schedule yet to discuss with your advisor (or are we supposed to?)

I'm going, I'm not sure about the scheduling thing. I took a look at the course offerings and understood little, so I'm really gonna need that advisor's advice. Has anyone actually prepared one?

I have an idea of the courses I'll be taking, but not my actual schedule.

I did an actual schedule w/ the courses/times/dates/professors, etc. Works out pretty well. It was kinda confusing at first but I figured "This is definitely not going to be the hardest thing I'll do at UVa so I better just sit down and do this" and it was relatively easy once I got started.

Btw. - It makes it easier if you set up like a weekly calendar ..it makes it easier to see when you have things and easier to plan times for meals, etc.

I can scan/send what I did if anyone is really interested...

Can I get a copy of that? I wanna know how you knew what courses to take and what general ed you need.

All those going to Session 1 of Orientation (june 30-july 1), keep in mind that we dont have our AP test scores yet for this year. I dont know how that is going to work out. I think we just have to "guess" what we might get and register for courses accordingly.

I noticed over on the SAT prep forum that as of several days ago, you can get your AP scores with a phone call to AP services. I believe it costs $8 for the call, so I told D to just hang on til the scores get here by snail mail. But if she were going to an early orientation, I would definitely recommend making the call--it sure would help in choosing classes.

Hey Guys,

We are enjoying here at UVA at the First orientation !

We met Vi3telit3 , and JMONE1......all worrying about our schedules.
E-school students- dont worry too much about schedules. I dont know about CLAS.

cavalier302, where are you???

just curious - how'd you guys manage to meet each other outta all the ppl there?

yes, HOW THE HELL did you meet every CCer?

Please Emphasize on E-School Students "not worrying"!
I'm freaking out man!!! What's this calc test!? Also, like, how many classes do they take?!

Umm....Jmon is is sincere's friend and all I had to do was recognize sincere from his facebook. He stands out of a crowd any day. And for e-school classes. Don't worry about anything. Your schedules are planned out for you, don't make one in advance. They have like 12 schedules lined up for you. Most are for people who aren't exempt from classes, the others are cater to people who have been exempt from a writing requirement or are rodman scholars. If you're a rodman scholar, you have no choice in schedule. For E-School all I did was choose my schedule and she entered it in. No thinking involved. I wanted to do beginning tennis, but that had filled up quite quick. It was actually 29/30 filled up before the day had began. Echols has a big advantage.

well, i'm still a bit worried, don't exactly know why!
But anyways, how was the overall experience of orientation? Tips or Things to expect? July 11 is going to be crazy!

Don't worry about engineering school. Only worry about your scheduling time. They schedule you a time to meet with a faculty advisor to go over your schedule, THEN you can go ahead to an office and do the final scheduling. Depending on your time, you might get a choice schedule (different times for same courses) or you might end up like me and be last and have no choice in scheduling. But it's all cool. All the same to me.

Tips:
- Take the bus (Blue Line mainly)
- Carry Water
- Pretty much everything is optional (cept scheduling) you're there to find out stuff, so absorb as much as you can when you're there
- Take Calc diagnostic and review beforehand if you're in E-School
- You should bring ap scores and stuff, my advisor never asked for my transcript or anything. I didn't qualify anyway.
- Turn down air conditioning when you sleep, FREEZING
- Be prepared to walk a lot
- Knowing your student ID and password will help you if you need to use computer
- And most importantly talk to people, everyone's willing to help and become friends. Just get to know people and don't keep to yourself the whole time.

If I think of anymore I'll post it.

vi3telit3 is right, follow the tips provided by him.

The overall experience was GREAT!!! I dont know what to say ! YOu meet a ton of people. A lot of them are on facebook. People I didnt know came over to me and asked if i was on facebook.

If you are in CLAS (aka college)....I have bad news, you have to work a lot on the scheduling. My frined JMONE1 (Joe) told me that they have to figure out about 20 different backups in case one fills up. So you might have to work a lot onthe first night. But dont worry a lot. YOu'll enjoy there.

As far as E-school is concerned, dont worry about it. If you still have worries , just email me at suchit.ligade@gmail.com or my AIM SN is: thewhizguy09 . Just email me, or talk to me. and I will give you everything that the orientation leaders gave me. So that will help you make your decisions before hand. (I am also on thefacebook, just search for 'Suchit Ligade' )

But anyhow, dont worry at all...
First night was great too. We enjoyed 'Van Wilder' with other guys. vi3telit3 and I wanted to take Beginners Tennis, just as an addition, but it got filled. But we'll try to get that course in summer.

Oh yeah, they emhasized a lot on the UVA honor code....you'll knw why.
