Of all the Stern acceptees, has anyone been able to make up their minds about going there ? Can you share why you have decided on it, if you have? (other than "i want to make megabucks as an I-banker..."). Also have your parents been strongly urging you towards it, away from it, or just saying "whatever").

yea definitely going there. It was an easy decision to make since I didn't get more than $10,000 anywhere so money was not a deciding factor and since I got the big NO from Wharton I figured I'd got to the next best undergrad business school. The only thing I don't like about choosing stern is that I'm condeming myself to four years of hard work before law school. My parents are split on what I should do. Mom says go to Fordham so I don't kill myself before law school and dad says go to stern because he knows how many doors the name will bring me.

Well, you do know that the $10,000 is not a guarantee for 4 years. In fact with a 2.7 median gpa, I am wondering how many scholars get it in Sophomore year, as the requirement is 3.5 to stay in the Scholar program.

Your dad is right with how many doors the "Stern" name will open for you. Do you know what you are going to major in, and do you think that the temptation of job offers after undergrad from Stern would change your mind about even going to Law school?

oh when i said i didnt get more than $10, 000 I meant at the other schools I applied to so the tuition is pretty much the same for every school. sorry for the poor wording. I'm fairly certain I'll major in finance. As for job offers later I'm not sure. It all depends on what happens between now and four years from now.

Do all Stern Scholars get $10,000? I haven't recieved any information on it yet through mail and the scholarship wasn't mentioned in the admissions packet they sent...Should/Can I be hoping for a little more financial aid than what was previously stated?
Btw, I received the Sunday at the Square thing so I'm assuming they wouldn't take back the Stern Scholar thing rite?

Why don't you call or e-mail the admissions office for NYU? They are pretty good with answering all questions.

If you got the Stern Scholars Sunday in the Square, you get scholar perks....which are special seminars, presentations by top executives, sponsored travel abroad, etc. But they did say that not all Stern Scholars get merit awards.

I got into Stern but I'm not a Stern Scholar. I'm curious, how do you become a Stern Scholar and do all Stern Scholars receive a scholarship? I'm concerned because I like Stern a lot but with a 46000 price tag, it's not very likely that I can go without any financial aid.

i'm pretty torn right now between stern berkeley and umich. are you guys having a hard time deciding between your school? what schools are you choosing stern over?

Between:
Stern, Chapel Hill, Chicago and JHU (eliminated UMich, Mcgill etc.)

Did anyone else get really poor financial aid from NYU?

yea i got absolutely nothing

yeah, i didn't get anything either-Stern was immediately crossed off my list :)

I'm going to try to appeal the award. I still really like Stern, and if it weren't for the price tag, I'd go.

im having trouble deiciding between stern umich and unc...stern gave me about 12000 a year, which is really awesome. I think the lack of campus may pose a problem for me, but I'm visiting this weekend so maybe I'll be wrong

heyy.. i'm having a similar problem too.
umich and unc i know have that "apply after 2 years" business program (which is takin a risk that you might not be accepted). what do you think about that vs. stern which is already garanteed?

yeah stern is appealing for that reason, i would hate to go to umich or unc and not get into their business school but i wish i knew how realistic that was..but then again if i decided business wasnt for me then it would be easier to switch concentrations..i dont know how im goin todecide between the three..stern unc or umich.

Lol this is the same situation as me, cept I'm with UC Berkeley! But does anyone have any opinions on whether Stern is worth the $26000 premium over Haas or UNC or UMich?

Holla
You are right in how you are analyzing this. Both UMich and UNC are State schools, thus very large, and students applying in droves during their sophomore year, to get into Ross or Kenan-Flagler. Both of those B-schools are excellent, in fact rated higher than Stern in some areas.

You know if you are in the top-end at both State schools, don't you, by your stats? And top students will get in.

As far as UMich and UNC go, sure there are many other options, if you do not like Business, much else to choose from.

However, I am sure you can also transfer from Stern into CAS, without too much difficulty, (but CAS into Stern is very difficult). And then you have the vast selection of NYU majors.

UNC is the bargain, at $27,000 per year.
