Your medical mission to nepa/tibet must have been reallyy awesomee.. I wish i could do that.. can you give me some more infromation on that.. if you dont mind? Are you from there or how did you end up going? Who did you go with.. and for how long?

There's a local organization in my area (doctor's goodwill foundation) that organized a trip to nepal/tibet. Basically about 20 doctors, 10 med students and a couple of seniors went on the trip and we held 6 or so med camps in different underepresented areas of nepal and tibet. It was an awesome exprience and i was exposed to a wide variety of diseases/infections etc. which are common in 3rd world countries. I spent about a month in nepal/tibet and was even able to do some mountain climbing in tibet. I know for sure that UM organizes a similar trip to Haiti and I think the Doctor's Goodwill Foundation is planning a trip to Brazil this summer.

Kvjc11, that seems like such an amazing opportunity! that's definitely something i'm interested in. bu was one of the programs i was considering attending for a very long time. i know that you will have a great time!

thanx, even tho ur not going to bu, i'm sure u'll have an awesome time at UCSD. and attending medical camps in an undererpresented country will definately broaden your outlook on medicine and the impact that u can have on others as a physician, so definately look into that.

quick question...is applying to bu 7 year prog diff from applying to bu itself like is it a different application because i know in certain places u apply to the school itself first like brown and then once ur accepted u apply to that special med program - is it the same for bu?? please respond i hope my question is clear

for BU, its the same basic application.....you just check a box on the app that says you're applying for this program and then on the application it says "if you're applying for 7 year program do essay #..."

That actually doesn't happen at Brown. You send in the application to PLME (one extra recommendation plus two essays, I believe) at the same time as the regular undergrad app. It's the same for BU, except I think that the deadline for the med program app is about one month later than the undergrad app. You have to complete the undergrad app early, however, in order to be able to apply for the med program.

I think asterstar had a lil typo.. the BU med program app + regular undergrad app is due one month BEFORE the regular undergrad app deadline of Jan 1st i believe.. not one month after the reg. undergrad app deadline

i'm pretty sure i did the BU app Nov 31st, the day before it was due :)

I think you're right, lol. thanks :)

thanks a lot asterstar, mistaippa, and zik - i guiess my college advisor at stuy isnt too familiar with the 7 year med progs...in fact the list they gave me of progs was copied from a book dated back to 1989-1990....kinda sad when u think about it

I heard from some one that BU doesn't give University Merit Scholarship to the program kids starting from this year? Someone who got into the program said that. Is this true? Anyone who got into this program please reply. My nephew told me to put on this thread.

BU acceptees - My Nephew is planning to apply to BU next year. He is from MA. He wants to know what type of scholarship have you received.Your reply will be greatly appreciated.
