Who is my custodial parent?

<p>My parents are separated. They basically have equal custody of me- there was never any custody arrangements or anything, they worked it out amongst themselves. However I would estimate I probably spend more time at my mum's house.
My Dad pays my high school tuition which is quite an amount, which he has had to take out loans for. My mum pays for everything else. I really don't know who supports me more financially because they are constantly arguing about who does. My dad wants my mum to help him pay my school fees, and my mum says that she pays more than he does because she pays for everything for me and my brother.</p>

<p>So basically I'm confused as to who to put down as my custodial parent when filling out fin aid applications.</p>

<p>Your custodial parent is the one with whom you live 51% or more of the time. Given what you've posted, it's your mother.</p>

<p>Chedva is correct. If you live with your mom the most, that's your custodial parent. It makes no difference who provides the most monetary support (for FAFSA purposes).</p>
