Who is not going to Tufts because of FA?

^ I tried it - and failed. I highly doubt it unless one of your parents has to take a pay cut or lost his/her job or something.

^That sucks, sorry to hear that, neethus! I’m in the same boat…I guess I should be expecting a rejected appeal any day now. Where’s everyone going instead?

George Washington University

and I had the same experience as the poster with the happiest day of my life/ saddest day lol

Tufts has given me the absolute most in FA so far. With loans, my EFC’s only about $15,000.

Hope this explains things a bit. Apparently. they ran out of money. Good Luck to everyone. By the way when touring GW this past fall we met a Senior who first choice was Tufts and wound up going to GW because they gave him 20K, he was ectremely happy and did not have any regrets.

Tufts gave us about the same or equal to financial aid from BC, American, and Seattle. We were offered much less from BU or Fordham- really, not enough to afford them- and no financial aid at all from UC Davis, but the bar is set much lower (or do I mean higher?) at the UCs for financial aid, so no surprise.

I don’t see how one could be unhappy going to any respectable undergrad school. It’s college after all…

If money is a factor, and since undergrad has little direct correlation to employment prospects, I’d easily take the 80k and run.

Neethus, did they give you an idea of how long an appeal would take or are you saying you did appeal and got nothing more? I am SOOO rooting for you!!

^ Unfortunately, I did appeal and got nothing more.

Thank you Modadunn  Sadly the financial aid officers don’t feel the same way…

But I think I might end up at Tufts anyway. We’ll see ;)

Add me to the list of those not going because of FA. When my mother sincerely offered to sell our house in order for me to go to Tufts, I realized that some things are just not worth it. Current plan is to go to Northeastern for the 5 years then go to Fletcher… but plans do change in five years! Then again, there are still a few days 'til we send the check… and Mega Millions is up to $155M ;)

I’m rooting for you too neethus!! I hope it all works out for you!

^ That’s definitely the smart thing to do. Best of luck at NEU!

Thank you very much Detail! You have really given me great advice throughout this whole process :)

tufts didnt give me anything at first either, but after calling finaid and sending new information they met us 100% (with an efc of 20k, do the math). the main reason they gave us was because my dad is partially retired and because i did ED (yes, an actual reason- they were reciprocating our commitment). sorry to those who got crushed with the finaid decision, i was in your shoes once…

Was at Tufts last week for one of their Open Houses for admitted students. What an impressive school, and they certainly were forthcoming with the fact that they just don’t have the money for anyone in the middle class this year. They lost $500M of their $1.3B endowment last year. I feel for anyone who had Tufts on their list but had to go elsewhere due to lack of FA – Tufts is a great school, but just not able to go head to head in FA with some of the big boys. I ate lunch with two other admitted students and their parents and they were saying (like me) that Tufts was essentially off the table due to lack of reasonable FA … let’s hope things turn around in the economy soon…

I had to give it up too. Oh well. Not a huge loss.

Officially not going the jumbo way. FA was actually horrible.
