I think that out of all the UCs, UCSC might just have nicest campus. I haven’t been to Irvine or Merced before, but I’ve been to Berkeley, LA, Davis, Riverside, and Santa Barbara. I actually haven’t been to UCSC either haha, but judging from pictures, it’s prettier than what I’ve seen. UCLA is gorgeous too, but in a different way.
As for how it compares to calpoly, I think the two places are drastically different. From what people tell me it’s relatively conservative, while SC is just about as liberal as you get. Calpoly is kind of a quiet place. I visited once, and I don’t remember what the campus looks like but I remember that I wasn’t blown away, but it did seem a little cozy?
But yeah, I say definitely visit the campus! My final decision will rest on visiting the campus too : )

I have a friend that currently goes to UCI and she’s actually having a great time there. It IS kind of quiet though, she says, but she really enjoys dorm life because they’re always doing activities together. : ) But like you I think I’d rather go to Santa Cruz too.

I am, and not because It’s the only place I can get in, It’s where i wanna go :)

Congratulations on getting in, UC805NK. : > I just saw your post in the other thread!

If Davis rejects me I plan on attending UCSC.

My son is a freshman at UCSC this year and he is loving it. It is a beautiful environment and there is a lot to do, even on the weekend. He and his roommate go downtown sometimes on the weekends; the Santa Cruz bus goes downtown from the campus. When I first visited, I was prepared to see all the “hippie stereotypes”, but honestly, almost all the kids I saw just looked like …well, college kids. The Cowell dining hall is all new. Anyway, my son is very happy, and he loves it there.

99% sure I’m going to UCSC. =)
I think I’ll be applying for Crown College. I like being around nerdy people. x)

UC805NK hooray! im so excited for you! i know you really wanted to go here :]

thanks you guys, I’m definitely super stoked, i feel a lot better knowing that i got in. Congratulations on getting in as well! are you guys going to spring spotlight?

I might go to UCSC too, except that I haven’t gotten any info on spring spotlight after I entered my W# to make my reservation. I emailed admissions several days ago and no answer yet. I plan to attend the 4/9 session.

@hopenbelieve111: UCSC is consistently ranked one of the most beautiful university campuses in America (I think we’re even globally ranked, as far as campus beauty, if I recall correctly).

UCSC has it all in looks. you are in the forest, yet 10 minutes away from the beach. there is a meadow around the corner, oceanic scenes out of the windows, and everything is green.

when i was there i would walk down the paths and deer were just chillin next to the pathways not giving a care about me or anyone else, as i walked down the hill to the big fields with the ocean in the hindsight… ahhh i miss it

sc really is a beautiful campus and location. i loved living there for summer.

Hey, out of curiosity, are any of the planning-to-attend-UCSCers here on this forum Asian?

I feel a bit nervous sometimes. I grew up in a public school system where I was surrounded by Asians every day (my high school is 60% Asian and my k-8 school was something like 80% Chinese). I’m afraid that I might go through culture shock or something. I’m not letting this stop me from going to SC, it’s just one of those pre-college nervousness things.

You make UCSC sound like a dream! This makes me so excited for spring spotlight.

@inthemorning
I’m Asian, & I know what you mean by being nervous. I didn’t grow up in a predominantly Asian community though. My school was about… 20% Asian, & there was a lot of racism. =/ But honestly, I think college people will be a little more mature. Hopefully, haha.

& if not… well, you won’t be the only one suffering. :D

: ) Thanks milkteaa! I definitely think that the people at UCSC will be more mature than the people at your high school ;3;

Back on topic, I guess! Who else is planning to attend UCSC/what colleges are you looking at/are you going to spring spotlight/etc?

is it an overnight stay thing?

i don’t know if it is an overnight thing or not, i know that i cant sleep right until this decision comes out

Spring spotlight is not overnight.

I’m most likely going. I will also be attending the spring spotlight on the 8th. Cya guys there.

Going to spring spotlight!
Never been there, hopefully it’ll be as good as everybody says it is :D

^ be prepared to be surprised… when i first went there i was thinking, its santa cruz, its on the beach right? nope… in the forest.
