agreed with Armando!
Sorry frenchdude, guess you don't like me. :(

I'm usually sickened by the CCers obsessed with the "name" and nothing else, but I actually found Armando's post interesting. You (Armando) don't really sound like a "prestige whore" in the traditional sense... I mean, I'm a firm believer in fit over prestige (and I'm also very naive =P) but I accept your whorishness. =)

So, where are the rest of you guys applying?

I am applying to (don't you dare make fun of me:o)

Princeton -> don't think i'll get in
Harvard -> no way
MIT -> being a girl might be a hook :D
U mich -> kind of safety
UPenn -> ED, not feeling lucky
Stanford -> maybe...
UC Berkeley ->
Cornell -> safety IVY

I kind of agree with Armando but at the same time I'm not going to apply to HYPS just for prestige. Princeton and Stanford are probably I'm thinking of right now (Princeton more than Stanford). I want fit and prestige.

I mean I don't think I'll go to RPI over UIUC, although RPI is a better fit UIUC commands more prestige than RPI. At the same time I won't apply to Harvard just because it's prestigious. I'm basically looking for academic strength in my major and prestige too!

Aiko/Naidu (which do you prefer?), I know that you're smart from your posts here, but you might want some real safeties, too (Cornell as a safety...?)!

I'm applying to:
MIT - EA
UChicago - EA
Brown
Dartmouth
Tufts
Johns Hopkins
Vassar
Wesleyan
Brandeis
Hampshire
U of Rochester

I have too many schools on my list, but I'm praying that I get into either MIT or UChicago EA and don't have to deal with RD =)

Umich is my safety....

and you can call me either one...

Okay, but admissions are such a crapshoot that you might want to put some "definitely-in's" on that list!!!

but I accept your whorishness. =)

:D Yay! (10 Char)

U MIch is a Definitely In!!!!!!!

unless something goes terribly wrong....

So you should have more "definitely-ins"

I am not really interested in any other colleges, I mean I don't want to go to a safety school that I abhor.

Hmm I've been feeling pretty anxious about the process recently. I think I'll feel a whole lot better when I get a list finalized, then I can just start setting up a schedule and work through it. Problem is, I don't feel comfortable making a set-in-stone list without talking to my college counselor at school, so I guess I'll have to wait... : ( .

aikomidori - I've been thinking along the same lines, in the sense that I shouldn't even consider applying to schools I know I wouldn't like... but practicality forces me to think otherwise, in the sense that I need schools with higher acceptance rates and a few that are close to home, just in case. Plus your conception of what you want in an education is liable to change. You never know what can happen.

it all depends on what my father wants me to do, unfortunately...

and he is not willing to apply to any other schools...

im not as anxious about it as i am like the SATs, which are easy to completely screw up. i guess the essays will be the worst part because i'll be freaking about whether not they're good enough and what i should have fixed. the wait will be excruciating though.

make an English teacher read it and give you comments - NOT your mom:D

I think the essays are the easiest part! They're funnnnn!

How can you be sick of the app process? Most just came out yesterday other than the essays maybe.
