My vote goes to either Will Smith, who got a perfect SAT score and a free ride to MIT, or James Woods, who has a certified IQ of 180.

wow, he did?

before that I was going to say maybe natalie portman or matt damon (they went to harvard before making it big, right?)

"Contrary to many internet stories, Will was not offered a full scholarship to MIT. He did however, excel in math and aced his SATs."
Wikipedia

Still, Will Smith is smart, considering... others coughParisHiltoncough. Geena Davis is a member of MENSA.

That's weird. I actually looked up Will Smith on Wikipedia the other day and it said that he did get a free ride to MIT. Thise Wikipedia editors are slacking off!

James Woods does have an IQ of 180 though according to this site:

Coolio invented indoor air conditioning.

read his history

Alicia Keys went to Columbia when she was 16.
Conan O'Brien went to Harvard!

A lot of celebrities who went to Ivy League schools got there only after succeeding as big stars.

Some actually deserve the chance though.

Edward Norton is an example of a celebrity who actually got into an Ivy League school, Yale, without his celebrity status.

The Will Smith thing doesn't surprise me - he had to learn how to solve a Rubik's Cube for his new movie, and I watched him do it on Oprah in under 2 minutes. Pretty cool!

Jodi Foster (Yale), Brooke Shields (Princeton), and Natalie Portman (Harvard), yes. But Mira Sorvino, Tommy Lee Jones, John Lithgow, Conan O'Brien, Al Franken, Rivers Cuomo, Matt Damon, and Jonathan Frakes all went to Harvard BEFORE they were famous. (Damon did not graduate though, and Cuomo went through on the slow track).

Jodie Foster, while famous pre-Yale, did graduate Magna Cum Laude in literature, was valedictorian of her high school, is fluent in French, and a member of mensa. not too shabby.

Notice I said "a lot."

I cited Norton as an example. I should've included that I also meant for him to represent someone with actual intelligence to get into an Ivy League school.

My apology.

Notice I said "a lot."<<

I noticed that. And that's the part I was disagreeing with. If you had said "a few," I would have agreed with you. Because I could think of 8 showbiz celebrities off the top of my head who got into Harvard before they were famous, but only one (Portman) who got in after achieving fame.

Maybe one of the most public displays of of celebrity intellect is an appearance in an interview, where it's obvious, just from a few minutes of conversation, that the interviewee is far smarter than the interviewer. I remember Orson Wells on the tonight show, years ago, with Johnny Carson, when I felt sorry for Carson, because he was so overmatched. And that's saying something, because Carson had a mind that was amazingly agile.

He had to LEARN how to solve one? LOL! :D Real mark of intellect! After you finish one, you've learned enough to finish them pretty quickly (I clocked three minutes on my third try, and haven't care to try since). :p

No, really, the dude is smart, but a Rubiks cube is not a measure of intellect. At least, it shouldn't be...

"My mother, who worked for the School Board of Philadelphia, had a friend who was the admissions officer at MIT. I had pretty high SAT scores and they needed black kids, so I probably could have gotten in. But I had no intention of going to college." -- Will Smith, Reader's Digest interview.

"High" SAT scores could mean a lot of things, in comparison to the norm (and please, remove yourself from CC's norm - that's not average). It sounds like he had a minor hook and was cognizant of his URM status. Certainly not denying that he's smart - just telling y'all not to overblow it.

But, it's logical. If you're good to succeed, you're probably good to succeed in more than one field.

Sharon Stone is supposed to be MENSA.

Didnt Will Smith solve a rubic's cube on Fresh Prince?

Say it again:

Rubiks Cube != Ultimate Test of Superior Intelligence.

I wish it was, because like I said, on my third try, I clocked three minutes, and bet I can do it in two or less, at optimum - but I'm not exactly all that bright, y'know.

Bill Gates is the smartest celebrity.
:PPPP

LOL, no. Bill Gates is freakin' clever, but clever does not equate to smart.

...Being clever is better than being smart.
