It seems each college program has a different approach to evaluating the prescreen submissions. Does anyone have information about how their school screens? I have been told that various faculty watch the prescreens at the University of Michigan submissions and others have department heads watch and some even have graduate students do preliminary screening. Wonder if it would affect the outcome depending on who watches. There is so much riding on the “first impression”
I can only speak for CCU, but I know that through GetAccepted, a certain number of professors have to watch and put in their opinion and then the decision is made automatically through numbers.
@alexaMT So at Coastal Carolina a number of faculty watch all submissions? Wow.I think that is the most fair procedure I have heard about although it sounds like a lot of work. I assume all faculty would be seeing candidates in person were it a final audition, so that seems very fair and balanced. Schools who split up the precreens among faculty could work against certain candidates. What if the dance teacher watches your prescreen and you are not much of a dancer?
Yes- it’s all through GetAccepted and every faculty member (theatre and voice teachers from music) has access to view them. And a certain number have to weigh in on whether or not to pass them and then a notification is sent.
