When I read this, I was surprised we were 3rd in athletic renevue?

Power Players
1. Ohio State University: $104.7 million
2. University of Texas: $97.8 million
3. University of Virginia: $92.7 million
4. University of Michigan: $85.5 million
5. University of Florida: $82.4 million

The only private school listed in the top 10 is Notre Dame.

My question is where is this $92.7 million coming from? Bowl participation? Game ticket sales? T-shirt and sweat shirt sales? I'm still surprised we get that much.

doubtful, considering we're usually on some crappy channel like comcast sports net or lincoln financial...if we're on tv at all.

my guess would be that ticket sales--especially considering that it costs something like $250,000 for courtside season tickets at JPJ--are likely the cause for it. Also, if they are including money that they make as a result of events that occur at the sports complexes, then I can see concert money generating a large chunk of that.

I'm not surprised actually, because look at how many major sports people go to: soccer, basketball, football, baseball, and lacrosse. Then mix in all of the minor sports and then women's sports (which a considerable amount go to), and I'd say ticket revenues from all of them combined is easily high. I'm surprised a bit that we're that high on the list, but not surprised that we're in the top 10 at least.

Actually that number includes donations that went to build the JP Center so it is way off for operating income. The UVa budget on the website gives the actual numbers that will be ongoing. IIRC it's around $45,000,000.
