who knew?!

It never occurred to me that every single box on the common app required an ESSAY.

The question on the Harvard supplement about books? - I wrote a list, because they asked me for a list.

The question about expanding on one of your extra-currics? I wrote about what I did. I explained the actual activities I undertook.

I'm at school in the UK. I had NO way of knowing they were meant to be ESSAYS. Like, deep and analytical and flowery etc...

Will this hurt me?! They will take into account that I had no way of knowing, right?!

A list for Harvard’s supplement is no problem because that’s exactly what they asked for. I doubt your extracurricular writing will be a problem either.
Not everything on common app is meant to be an “analytical and flowery” essay. Where did you get that impression?

somebody on here said that their extra-currics one was more…personal. like, how we’ve grown up with a special talent and nurtured it and how special it is.

not for me. mine is literally “I shadowed the stage management team and got a sense of what goes into a professional show. Speaking to cast and crew members cemented my opinion that I am destined for a career in theatre”

…
