Who loves his/her guidance counselor (NOT)?

Sum1 went int her office to ask ehr something and found her filling out thank you notes. Then the person inquired about NHS and she's like "Oh, that's happening soon, right? Yea it is. Well I'm the one who's in charge of it so you
ll be hearing from me about it."
Visitor: "Well when is the ceremony? Is it before or after Passover?"
GC: "Ohhhhh. Um. I'm not sure. I'll have to get back to you but I believe Mrs. X (Asst. Principal) will inform me of that"

Wow. Just, wow.

haha, I love my guidence counselor. He is also our vice principal but he is the coolest guy. He will randomly scream peoples names into the school intsead of using the intercom and he taped posters of snoopy all around the school. He even has a snoopy lunch box. He gets everything you need done one second after you ask him and he is always so full of life.

my guidance counselor is friends with my family which = good recs :D....shes sooo amazing!!!! she always tries to help us if she can!!!

I barely know mine. She came to our Bio class in Freshmen to talk about SAT IIs, saw her at Sophomore, Junior and Senior Course Registrations. I saw her once more when I needed to update my address.

How do you get them to write Recs if they barely know you ? (Do you guys have like a meeting or something?)

Karen, your GC does sound cool!!!!!!! :D

My guidance counselor implied (not so subtly) that I was anorexic when we were having a meeting about my schedule for next year...skinny does NOT equal anorexic! I was pretty offended, actually...

Hmm...I'll show you an average convo from my guidance counselor...just know that this is a highly paid counselor at an expensive prep school (not boarding, but known for its guidance department around my area)...

My Mom: Hi. I was just calling about my daughter taking an AP in World History and European History-I know that she's a sophomore, but she...
Guidance Counselor: AP? What's that?
My mom: Advanced Placement...?
GC: Oh...well, I don't think we have those here. (meanwhile, we have 10)
same convo
Mom: I think she can handle the test...she got a 218 on the PSAT for sophomore year.
GC: What's the PSAT?

I know more about college admissions and course selection than my counselor. And I'm a freshman.

^that's horrible, lol.

Yeah I've only met with my guidance counselor a few times since i am a sophomore but she seems very nice. she's very flattering towards me. she's also in charge of nhs/peer tutoring.

haha. sorry snoopyiscool but my school is nowhere near you =(.

My GC is horrible at the search and selection process so everyone comes to me for those things. They all wonder how I know everything I do but i just tell them it's my little secret. If i ever told them I came on here for it anyone would recognize me in a heartbeat and everything I say would be subjected to scrutiny. He's great once you decide where you want to apply and such though. He knows everyone in our school personally and can write amazing recs for us.

haha, my gcs are normally nice and sweet. they get everything done within a day, if you ask them. personally, I think they do their jobs very well, and I'm very grateful to them.

My GC told the current Key Club prez and class valedictorian that he had no chance at Carnegie Mellon because "people from here just aren't good enough for top schools" and refused to write a recommendation. [FYI, he's going to UChicago.] She's also messed up a bunch of our scholarship programs and she's been known to get numerous things lost.

I was not your typical college applicant and as such my college counselor saw me as somewhat of an enigma, but despite the fact that I had pretty much taken care of myself in the application process he did save me from committing a dire mistake (although it was something that only he would have known because he had received an update from Princeton admissions). For that I give him a ton of credit.

My GC forced me to take AP French for half a year because she's too lazy to fix my schedule.

My schools not very competitive and so usually my GC just deals with sending kids to State U. Needless to say when I told him my list of schools I was interested in, which included a few 'top 50', he basically blew me off and started suggesting some schools I'd never heard of. That was Junior year and the last time I ever talked to him.

I involved him with the process as little as possible after that, only using him for things that only he could do such like sending transcripts.

i absolutely ADORE my GC. most of the ones at my school are lazy and generally disliked by their students, and only meet with them to do scheduling and stuff. my GC is completely different. she knows every single one of her kids personally and by name (pretty impressive when you see some of them for only 10 minutes or so once a year...), and goes out of her way to help you. she seriously checked ten times a day for me to see if there was an opening in a class i really wanted to get in, but it was full. she's basically an amazing lady.

ooh, the guidance counselors at my school are inept. They have no clue at all about AP Classes and generally tend to track students away from an academic course that would lead them to college. I even have one counselor that is a former drug addict and says that college is not important. They got really shirty with me when I confronted them about this and virtually screamed at me, I was a ninth grader who wanted out of Phys ed and into Pre AP chem so I shut up and hounded them for three weeks until they enrolled me in the course. I depend on my teachers for advisement. They hold a scheduling night for each grade because they are well aware of this problem.

My original counselor sucked to begin with. To make matters worse, now I have a substitute guidance counselor who is senile and is apathetic towards colleges.

If I want to get anything done in my school either my parents have to call in or I have to continually pester the staff.

i like my GC. she talks a lot tho lol
very helpful and biased towards our advanced studies program and hates the stupid kids hahaha

^ I think mine is exactly the opposite.

My GC hates my guts. Everytime I go to her office... lots of yelling... -.- ...
