I like my GC... he's really nice and helpful. The problems are not with him... but with the guidance department in general. They don't focus on the top 5% as much as the lowest 5%. I realize that these people DO need a lot of guidance and help... but it also annoys me that the guidance dept. has this, "Okay, your grades are okay, you can take care of yourself!" mentality.... because I think that, EC-wise, I could be a lot more successful if I had the support of the guidance dept.

My guidance counseler hasn't made the best impression on me. I emailed her about doing research, and she never replied. . . and this isn't exactly a big school (it has 270 students in the entire student body and 2 guidance counselers). She never seems to really want to talk to me, either. CC has helped so much more.

i, unfortunately, falll into thqt category of students who know more than thier gc about admissions. she even admitted this to someone, saying she really only know about getting into two colleges, and had no idea about any other schhols!

I love my councelor, though my school has two of them and I'm glad I didn't get stuck with the other one. I did most of the work before we met anyway (I even had a chart comparing important factors to me about each school). So I don't know how well it would have worked if I hadn't. I've heard other people complain about her giving them a list of schools that didn't match their criteria at all.

I go to a huge school so we have 6 or 7 GCs (forgot the exact number :p). Personally, I think I ended up with the nicest one, but sometimes she gives me false information (not purposely, of course) like when I asked about enrolling in PE by correspondence. She told me there was no such thing in my district, which I know is not true because I have had several friends to it. But she does try very hard to help, and I guess that is what matters in the end.

I like my GC. The only bad part is that for soph/jr year I had a different counselor (he would like Xerox me entire books that I didn't need to read) and he retired so it was a new one for senior year....she's good, she was a middle school teacher of mine...she gets mad though if you don't go see her like once every two weeks at the minimum.

my GC is nice enough but just doesn't really get it, i don't think. i kind of adopted an unofficial GC because he was our faculty advisor for the last show I was in, so now everyone in that cast goes and talks to him about their scheduling or life issues, haha.

the main problem with my gc is her cluelessness. she also has no contact with any schools except university of michigan, wayne state, and yeshiva university. it's a really big problem for people who want to explore other options. in fact, she's asked me for advice before. when she did i was thinking "w t f? isn't it your job to be giving out advice?" really messed up. met with a gc from a ntoerh school for three hours though and now im all ready to start marketing myself and selecting good fits.

Um who hasn't seen their college counselor since he got into college?

UM ME!!! lol

But my advisor's awesome. She's in charge of schedules, and **** gets done fast if you need a schedule change. And she's on the little committee that gets to decide if you're allowed to take more than 3 AP/honors...um my request was granted...probably cuz my advisor was in that committee.

And yes, college counselor and advisor are 2 different people.

And I ADORE my econ teacher....

"CAN you read? SHOULD you read? WILL you read?"

Usually yes, yes, no.

My counselor doesn't know who I am. Period.

My counselor isn't helpful. Period.

She's nice though... not that it makes a huge difference for college admissions...
