Who pays for your college tution

Who pays for your college tution? Does the school pay? Do you pay? Do your parents pay for it? I have no clue how it works, someone please explain this to me and how it works. Also how much does it cost to be at Pitt.

So I’m not sure what, exactly, you’re asking, but I’ll work backwards.

Pitt Tuition: [Institutional Research - Tuition Rates](Tuition Rates and Fees | Office of Institutional Research)

Click on if you are In-State or OOS, and then you can see the breakdown by school (i.e. A&S is cheaper than SSOE).

As for billing, depending on your state-status and the school you are in, you will be billed the month before your semester starts for that semester. So in August, you will receive a bill for Fall Semester. You generally have a month to pay the full bill (until September 17, or January 17 for the spring).

If you have any scholarships through the school, those will be applied to the bill on the first day.

If you have another source paying the bill (i.e. Education fund) what my parents did is they emailed the bill/sent the bill to their contact for the fund, and the contact would send the check to the school within a few days.

If you as a student are paying, you will probably take out loans to pay most of the bill and might pay the rest through working at work study on campus.

Note that tuition pays for your education, but room & board is separate and covers your meal plan and dorm living. There are also other small fees for things like Health, Transportation, and Activities.
