Who REFUSES to go to college in their homestate/city?

I have a question, several people said earlier in the thread that they would never go to a SUNY, do you guys mean any school in NY of just the publics? If it’s the latter, please explain.

i live in claremont and i know the claremont colleges such as Pomona, harvey mudd, and mc kenna are great colleges but i am not staying here.

Alaska…1 public university (3 campuses-Anchorage, Fairbanks, Southeast), 1 private (APU), and 1 community college. There may be more, but these are the ones that have at least a couple hundred people in them. I HATE it! Why couldn’t I live in essentially anywhere else? I would gladly go in-state if it wasn’t for AK. I love the limitless sunlight during the summers, but I despise the 7 month winters. Plus, staying up here…everything else (lower 48 states) is 2000-4000 miles away. It’s not enough to just be 500 miles from home. I must be 3000 miles away from everyone I know!!! Thank god I’m going to Michigan state. I don’t know what I’d do if I stayed like my lovely mother wanted (begged) me to. I love it

City, not state, but I’ve had enough of New York.

grew up in nyc – wasn’t considering the SUNY schools since i was looking for something more competitive, but at the same time, didn’t even want to apply to city schools to experience something new & i knew the chances of me coming back to work in manhattan after graduation were extremely high, if not near definite. wound up not only not applying to a school in my home state, but not one in any neighboring state either.

I live in Alabama.
yep.
The only college I’m applying for in-state (probably) is Montevallo… because I’m eligible for a full ride.

I need to get out of the south, though.
jeez- I need to get out of the south.
right.
now.

All the schools I applied to were at least 8 hours away from my city…

…except the one that I ended up at, which is 40 minutes away by T.

moviefreak: i feel you lol, im feeling the exact same way. I’m not going to stay on my homestate, but im not going too far either though.

i need to get out of illinois badly!

Me

Look under my name to see why.

…Iowa. Need I say more? ;)

I only have one viable in-state option (UDel) and it’s 15 minutes from my house. Not a good fit, either, but I’m applying regardless for financial reasons.

I refuse to go to college in my city because there is only a CC there. However, I live in Cali and we have the UCs, Caltech, Stanford, USC, Pomona and the other Claremont schools…great weather, etc…

i refused to go to college in my city even though thiers 3-4 universities around a 40 mile radius.

Me! I hate where I live and college is the perfect opportunity to LEAVE. I especially hate my city, but U of Scranton is there which is actually a nice school and really good for science.. so I might end up actually going there :frowning: Hopefully I won’t have to!

Two words: East Tennessee

I’m applying to UTK, but that’s only because I’m really paranoid about not getting in anywhere else.

same here!
I live in TX and refuse to go to UT-Austin, even though it’s considered a “public ivy.”

As much as I love New York, I’ve lived here almost my whole life and I want something new for college. My ideal distance is a 2-hour plane ride, but I’m willing to comprise for anything over a 2-hour drive.

New Jersey

hello, is somebody there to rescue me?

I live in PA
I’m not applying anywhere in state
NO WAY
