I am looking to double major in Sociology and Economics to get a fairly liberal artish undergrad and eventually move on into Investment Banking (business) upon graduation. What are some of the top schools in these fields. Currently I am considering Duke, USC, Georgetown, University of Wisconsin, and UPenn. Can anyone comment on this choice of double major? Thanks a ton!

I think it is a good combination but a little incongruous with investment banking. Sociologists tend to have a social conscience and care about the disenfranchised members of society. Bankers don't. They are motivated by enlightened greed.

Duke, Penn, and Wisconsin are strong in both areas. USC is pretty strong in econ but not soc. Georgetown is a great school but I don't think it is known for these two areas.

You should consider Michigan, Chicago, Minnesota, Illinois, Northwestern, Cornell, NYU.

Northwestern for sure.

The University of Chicago

It has some of the best departments in those areas in the country (and the world).

Upenn for ibanking.

you mention sociology.......so are you thinking World Bank & IMF??? Is that it?

Brandeis has a solid socio dept.

Im just listing my interests hazmat, no need to be a smartass.

If you go to Georgetown you would probably want to major in business, it is recruited much more for I-Banking.
Why Sociology? Is it just something you like?

Yes C-Revs, the study of people and demographics has always interested me a lot. Is a double major a feasible option? Maybe economics and sociology?

Wisconsin has the best sociology department in the country. It has the 12th best undergraduate business program in the country. You have in state tuition. Eh...

yes man

go to UW-Madison.....................

i so want to go there and visit

my fraternity's chapter house.

Check out Michigan-Ann Arbor.

Consider Berkeley. They also have geography here, which might interest you. If I were you, I'd search for lists of best sociology schools, or ask for a list in a new thread, find a few of the econ lists, and see which schools fall onto both.

stanford and ucla.
