Who said the Pac-10 is a weak conference?

Hey, at least Cal went to a bowl and Stanford didn't. That's a very successful season in my eyes.

"Very successful season." Oh, really?

Compared to the old days? Darn right. This is worlds better than the way it used to be. Cal was not only a bad team, but it was also a bad team that was caught cheating, hence becoming one of the few schools that suffered the indignity of being deemed a repeat offender by the NCAA because the basketball team had also been caught cheating. You would think that if you were cheating, at least you would be a winning team, as after all, the whole point of cheating is to win more games than you should. Cal had the rare problem of actually being a bad cheating team.

Compared to that, this is like night and day. At least Cal this season doesn't have a losing record (not yet anyway), and it also isn't a cheating team (at least as far as I know). I far prefer this to the old days.

Who else hear wants Hawaii and USC to just smash everyone?

Cal vs. Air Force should be an interesting match up. True, it is a bowl, and if Cal can win, it will have a winning season again.

Cal has gone to five straight bowl games (first time in program history)! That is a huge turnaround. Sure the season was disappointing, but it was disappointing for a lot of teams.

personally, i hope georgia kicks the crap out of hawaii as well. it isnt fair that hawaii, who plays absolutely no one, goes to a major bowl game when excellent teams like, uh, MIZZOURI, dont. or asu, they come to mind also. seriously, no one gives a darn about hawaii except the island which is a 5 hour plane flight from LAX. besides, did anyone hear about how HI's fans were throwing stuff at the sj fans a few weeks ago during the game and shouting racist comments and insults at them? their fans dont deserve sugar, they're sour, not sweet.

^ LOL...they are this years Cinderella team. Washington had a chance to beat 'em last night and get ASU to the Fiesta Bowl, but Washington couldn't do it.

Personally, I can't stand Dennis Erickson, and I'm glad he's not going to a BCS bowl...I have nothing against the Sun Devils...I just hate Erickson.

The BCS has an agreement with non-BCS conferences, that if they finish within the top 12, they get an auto-bid to a BCS bowl...Hence, Hawaii to Sugar bowl.

I think Hawaii deserves to go to a BCS bowl. I mean, I know their schedule was ranked like 110th or something in the nation, that they barely beat a very bad Washington team, barely beat Nevada, SJSU, and other no name teams, but the fact remains they are undefeated. Besides, Colt Brennan is a great college player, and he's exciting to watch.
His matchup against Georgia secondary will be a good one. But Hawaii's never faced a team, a SEC team, as deep and fast as Georgia. It's going to be either Hawaii barely pulls off an upset like Boise State last year, or they get routed by the big bad team from the South.

At least ORegon got into a better bowl game than oregon state :D

Hawaii barely beat one of the worst Pac-10 teams. I DO think Hawaii deserves to get to a BCS game given their record. Though, I would like to see them get pummeled by Georgia on national television, mainly just for a laugh.

Also, USC vs. Illinois? I understand the Big 10-Pac 10 thing going on, but come on.

So what people are saying is, that if a team regularly plays cupcake teams like sjsu, save one 2nd to last place pac-10 team that they BARELY beat, they deserve to go to one of the biggest, most prestigious bowls in the history of the game over a team who is regularly playing Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, USC, Cal, etc? come on, i see your point, but please!

Hot, I agree...Cal had a better record in 2004 than Illinois did in 2007. They seemed to preserve the BigTen/Pac-10 tradition this year, but didn't for Cal in 2004 when they picked Texas.

I like Illinois and I'm glad to see them return to the Rose Bowl, but Mizzou definitely got shafted by the Illinois pick.

vc08, don't let your BigTen, Pac-10, major football BCS-conference elitism go to your head! ;)

In defense of Hawaii, it's not Hawaii's fault they are in a weaker conference, and that they scheduled weaker OOC opponents this year (those OOC games are normally scheduled a couple years in advance).

The BCS says a team from a non-BCS conference can go to a BCS game if they are ranked within the Top 12. They are undefeated...and have no chance of going to the NCG because they are in a weaker conference. Boise State beat Oklahoma last year in one of the most thrilling games ever. Hawaii played by the rules and deserves the reward.

It will all change next year for Hawaii though...Colt Brennan will be gone and they play the Gators at Florida for an OOC game next year. Man, that's a loooong flight to play a game.

Hawaii's 2008 non-conference schedule:
Aug. 30 at Florida
Sept. 6 Weber State
Sept. 13 at Oregon State
Nov. 29 Washington State
Dec. 6 Cincinnati

vc08, do you think tOSU deserves to be in the NCG? They played a cupcake schedule as well.

Come on...
Youngstown State
Akron
Washington (same team Hawaii beat)
Kent?

Northwestern and Minnesota are some real powerhouses too...

lol, yea i love that. I don't mind it though. No biggy. It just kills me to know that Oregon with Dixon would've been such an amazing game against LSU. I just hope we actually win a bowl game for the first time in almost like 5 years or whatever it has been.

what bowl did Cal get into?

^ The Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl!

Air Force should be a worthy opponent.

I don't get the Bell Helicopter sponsorship though...what were they thinking? How many more helicopters are they gonna sell because their name is slapped on a bowl game?

Karl Dorrell is gone, as expected:
ESPN - UCLA fires Dorrell after 6-6 season - College Football

Who knows, maybe Hawaii will pull off an upset, like Boise State last year and Appalachian State this year.
Yeah, Oregon vs. LSU would have been really fun to watch. Personally, I think OSU will lose to LSU even worse than they lost to Florida last year, probably by three touchdowns or something.
And, the Holiday Bowl between ASU and Texas should be quite a good one. It's sad that ASU got screwed over by Fiesta Bowl committee, I think they deserve it over a Kansas team that had one of the weakest schedules.

same with Mizzou i still can't believe they got snubbed. technically they only lost one game since both losses were to the same team.
