I'm applying to universities such UPenn, Vanderbilt, Drexel (BS/MD), etc. (all for pre-med or the accelerated medical program if they offer it) and I wanted to know if I should ask my Freshman Biology teacher (who is also the head of the Biology department) or my AP Calc BC teacher for a letter of recommendation? I have done all my extracurriculars through my Freshman Biology teacher and she knows me the best out of all the teachers I've had but is she a better option than an AP Calculus BC teacher?

Recent teachers are best, but do not find someone who needs to write a lot of letters of rec. In my experience, they will be more stringent in their evaluation.

People that know you well, and think highly of you, will likely write better letters of recommendation. They can elaborate on the things they’ve seen you do both in and out of the classroom. Bubble’s advice would be worth considering if you only spent time with your bio teacher in freshman year, but from what you write, it sounds as though you’ve had a very close relationship with her throughout high school.

I’d ask the biology teacher for the LOR
