There is a huge difference between the result of net price calculator and the FA package. We are thinking to appeal the decision? So who is in a better position to start the process? Thanks
The student should start the process.
Are you self employed? Are parents divorced! Do you own real estate in addition to yoir primary residence?
Why do you think there is such a big difference?
The parent can contact and ask for a clarification of why there is a difference between the NPC amount and the actual award.
If this is an ED award, you need to do,this ASAP…and you may need to ask admissions for an extension on your decision time.
Thanks all for the help. Not self employed. two W-2, no extra incomes etc. Huge difference.
Contact them. There mig just be an error in what was entered.
In the meantime, check your Profile to make sure you didn’t enter something incorrectly. Look at every single entry…make sure the amounts are accurately entered. And make sure you didn’t include your income in the student section.
I think a lot of people do the NPC wrong (OP not implying that you were). This can be very bad if you are applying ED. A few months ago, I noticed that in NPC, I was putting the AGI (adjusted growth income) from my tax form and not the AGI they are asking for in the NPC. The difference was thousands of dollars. So it is possible that some people add the wrong number in the NPC. From one school “Please note that the “Adjustments to Income” question is NOT your AGI from line 37 of the 1040.”
I did it as a parent. It isn’t like my kid knows the nuances of parental finances anyway.
I did too, @intparent
Most schools have a specific form for appealing FA and it tells you what to include (documents, taxes). At both schools my kids go to, it is written as if the Student is appealing, but requires the signatures of both student and parent(s).
I did most of the work, but the questions were written as if the student was answering “Did your parent have a change in income? Did your parent experience a disability?”
