Who should read my common app essay?

Hi, so I have a bit of a dilemma here. So, after writing my essay, I want to review my essay with someone to make sure that it is as best as possible. My essay isn’t sensitive in a way that it talks about abuse or mental health, but it concerns a period of my life where I went through multiple difficult events all at once (mainly financially and health-related). Both my junior and current senior year English teachers offered to read my essay. However, I don’t feel too comfortable having them read my essay because of the subject, but it’s a situation where I wouldn’t be uncomfortable if the admissions offices read it (if that makes sense). However, my guidance counselor is someone I trust who I’ve been going to ever since I was a freshman because I dealt with multiple personal problems that she helped me with and I wouldn’t mind her reading my essay. My main question here is, should I have my GC review my essay with me or should I just let one of the English teachers read it because I’m reading too much into the situation?

I think you should have your GC read it, as they know some of the issues involved and could let you know if you are showing them in the right light for an admissions essay. If you can, having an English teacher look at it also from an essay point of view would be good. If you have a good relationship with the teacher, I’d hope you could trust that they will consider the problems you include as you being honest (and not as overly personal sharing), and they’ll act professionally to give you their best advice as far as having an essay that gets you into college.
