If any signer of the Constitution (was) to return to life (for a day), his opinion (of) our amendments (would be) interesting. Or no error.

Can someone explain the right answer to me?

Where is this from and the answer is A right? Was should be were?

"To conquer conditionals on the SAT, look out for the word if and memorize this simple formula to use the correct conjugation: “If . . . were . . . would.”
Taken from: SAT: Improve SAT Score with SparkNotes: The Seven Deadly Screw-Ups

I also believe it's A - should be "were".

yea you're both right...

Thanks soo much shiomi for that link. It's really helpful.

Lol, I'm sooo OCD about proper subjunctive use. Ever since someone corrected me on it one time about a year ago, the sound of "was" as the subjunctive has been torture to my ears.

My friends hate me. Conversations will literally be like:
"I wish it was..."
"You WHAT?"
glares "I wish it were..."

^LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's friggin hilarious HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

LOL...

anyway the SAT always test simple correlative --- If .. X had.., X would ...
ive seen this many , many times~

It's like the phrase, "If I were"
sounds wrong, but it's correct.

great quick review, shiomi

well another related question to conditional:
should we use would or would have with a conditional? E.g.:
A. If America were still a British colony, we would still be drinking tea insted of coffee.
OR
B. If America were still a British colony, we still would have been drinking tea instead of coffee.

A...right?

so would the following be correct as well?

if i were you, i would be pretty cool.

A ffor smustehsans brit example.

Wait, if its "were", then it fits with "his opinion"? Isn't "were" plural and "his" singular?

But with ifs, you need a were regardless of plural or not
