Who thinks...?

Who thinks a deferral would be cruel? I think I’d rather be rejected than deferred because then I can move on. If there is a small chance that I can get in, all my hope would be in that, and I’d probably be disappointed again. Anyone else feel the same way? (I’m saying this because I know I’ll probably be deferred based on what my GC told me)

I will just be confused more than anything, because at this point I am not at all clear on the real chances of getting in after a deferral.
I know it's around 10% of those deferred are accepted during RD. But does that include those who withdraw their apps after the deferral? And will 10%even be the case for this crazy year?

bongo - Can you say what your GC told you? I just heard of several more who ED'd to Penn from my school - raising the number of ED apps at my school between this year and last by around 30-40%. :(

IM SO SCARED I CANT BELEIVE THAT THE DECISION COMES IN 6 DAYS!!!! Do you think that my SAT scores will totally ruin my application (1750), im not a good standardized test taker. The only thing i have going for my is my academic grades, legacy, and how i took college courses at Yale and NYU over the summer

deferrals are mean... they give hope where there is none

For ED they accept about a third, reject about a third and defer about a third. Out of the third group, only about 10% make it in the RD round. I think they should only defer those with a realistic chance to get in, but unfortunately, deferrals are also used as a way to soften the blow in some cases, legacies, for example, or a well known high school that they don't want to insult by taking nobody that year.

collegecountdown- Oddly enough, ED apps to Penn in my school have doubled so competition is insane with legacies since I live close to Penn. Even though I have the stats to be competitive, he said that they aren't going to take so many students from our school so I'll be deferred most likely (I don't have a real hook)

I was deferred from Chicago last year EA and ultimately accepted RD (I applied a year early and turned down the acceptance in the end)...while it stings a lot for a couple of weeks, you really forget about it once school starts back up.

The way I see it, the rd competition from my school is so ridiculous that if I don't get accepted ed, I probably won't get accepted.

i desperately hope i don't get rejected, cuz i think i have a chance RD if i inundate them with essays and achievements
