Who to contact to change majors

I was accepted ED into Cornell, but I no longer want to pursue the major (Physics) I listed in my application. Instead, I would like to major in Biology. How do I go about changing my major and who should I contact? Is it possible to do this before I go to Cornell so that I can attend the orientation specifically for Bio majors?

Is anyone here on CC in the same boat I am in? Did you get accepted into a major you listed on your application, but no longer want to pursue?

Since you are in CAS, changing "majors" is not a big deal at all since you do not officially declare a major until the end of sophomore year in CAS. They will assign an advisor to you - probably someone in the physics department based on your expressed interest when you applied. I would call up Office of Advising in the College of Arts & Sciences to let them know so they assign an appropriate advisor to you - otherwise, I don't think you have to do anything. Their phone number is 607-255-5004. Every college is different - for example in CALS students actually applied to a major, so they have to "officially" switch majors.

Also - you don't have to be a declared biology major to attend the meeting during orientation. CAS also runs a session for pre-med/pre-dental students. Relax...

When you are accepted to CAS, you are not officially accepted into a major. The application asks for one, but undecided is OK. They are just interested in knowing what you think you might want to study but it is not binding in any way. In fact, CAS probably expects people to change majors, statistics show that many students who start out thinking they will major in one thing change their minds. In CAS you are exposed to so many different subjects you haven't studied before, changing majors is not uncommon.

Thanks for all your answers. They have definitely provided me some relief.
