Who to get Recommendations from?

Hi! I’m getting a recommendation letter from my IB English teacher since she writes amazingly and I had her in 11th and 12th grade. But for the other teacher, I quickly asked the math teacher I had in 9th grade that I volunteer for in math honor society a lot, but a lot of sites say to not ask a 9th grade teacher, and that 11th grade teachers are preferred.

And I think she’s already written it… Should I ask my 11th grade IB Economics teacher whom gave me the IB Economics Student of the Year award instead? But I did poorly on the IB exam for that class so he may be disappointed in me.

Thank you!

moreover… I think 3 teacher recommendations is overkill…

I’d go talk to your IB Economics teacher and ask if he will write a good recommendation for you. I’m sure he’s not disappointed in you if you were the Student of the Year in his book. Everyone can have a bad day on a test and to hold that against you would be silly.

And no, your 9th grade math teacher is not appropriate unless he/she can provide unique insight into who you are that neither of these other two teachers can offer - in which case, it can be a 3d recommendation. (Yes, three is generally overkill unless the 3d really has something unique to say about you. Doesn’t sound like your situation with the 9th grad teacher, though.)
