Sigh. Chancing. The most pointless and counterproductive activity on CollegeBoard. Our guesses are no help to you – worse, they hurt you, because they create false expectations. The only definite we can offer is that if you don’t apply, you won’t get in, so if you’re interested in coming here, then apply. Make you application as true and accurate as you can, and then trust in the admissions office – if you belong here, then you will get in.

^ most honest reply to a chance thread.

You have as good of a chance as anybody. Just suck it up and apply.

I don’t understand why there’s so much hostility. Yes, I know that chance threads have no effect on what actually happens. Yes, I know that it can be annoying to see these threads over and over again. But they’re not that bad. I applied EA to UChicago, so your comments will not, of course, aid me in my endeavors to get into this school. However, they can help me understand potential flaws within my application. The people on CC are not ad coms, but they can still provide insight into how my application is seen. Maybe someone’s opinion sways me to pick different EC’s to include on my application. Maybe doing this will improve my chances at another school should I get denied from UChicago. You’re completely right in that chancing me doesn’t help me get into UChicago, but it can help me prepare a better application for other schools. Besides, "Chance Me"s kill time when you’re bored and have nothing to do :stuck_out_tongue:
@davis miles lol
@cookcfc I don’t like hypocrisy: [YOU POSTED ONE TOO](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pennsylvania/992465-chances-wharton.html)

It’s not hypocrisy, it’s me trying to save you from my mistakes. Nor is it hostility. I was giving you the response that I thought would be most helpful to you.

lol Well I actually think there was more hostility on my part. I do appreciate your opinion, but I just wanted to voice mine on chancing. The link was more of a “haha I win… for now” type of thing. P.S. Good luck with UChicago or any other school you are applying to :D

^Don’t I sound incredibly bipolar? haha

How did you manage to get straight A+s (besides AP english) your junior year…? Are you some kind of superhuman?

@bbear12: I’m at UChicago now :slight_smile: Good luck to you – 6 more days!

@taft I’m not a superhuman, but I have a super-mustache :slight_smile: But seriously, it was just the fact that I really liked everything I was learning. When you enjoy what you’re studying, pulling off A+'s becomes a bit more attainable.
@cookcfc Thank You! Now that I know you’re an actual student at UChicago, I have a question: I hear that the atmosphere, while highly intellectual, can be stressful. What do you like to do when you don’t have to study? What kind of groups/organizations are most popular on campus?

Well, I’ve yet to hit the truly stressful classes, so my answer isn’t the best to go on.

I spend my free time in a variety of different ways. A lot of my time is spent with my house – the house system is truly fantastic and makes socializing easy. My house is really active (lots of movie nights, trips to the city, intramural sports) and we have a great lounge that is always filled with people. I’m also on the club frisbee team and attend a few different clubs (looking to get more involved next quarter). I do frequent a good amount of parties on the weekends (contrary to popular belief, the party scene is, while not flourishing, quite active… if that’s your thing). I also explore the area loads. That’s probably my main time consumer. The campus has tons to explore, if you’re good at it. There are underground abandoned pools, roof-top observatories, attics filled with old, old dissertations and ancient tea sets, steam tunnels, ways to get between all of the buildings… it’s really pretty fascinating trying to uncover the nooks and crannies of all the buildings. Buildings that old always have secrets to find.

Everyone deals with the stress in their own way. I’ve honestly yet to feel really stressed here… I mean, I’ve had loads of work, but I enjoy it, so it doesn’t stress me out. It’s just a matter of finding a balance. And not procrastinating – when I actually do work, I focus pretty intensely. Spending 8 hours “doing work” that you could have gotten done in 4 hours if you hadn’t been on Facebook, etc. is miserable.

Underground abandoned pools? What in the world? Sounds amazing. I can only hope I’ll be lucky enough to get accepted.

@cook that sounds incredible! Reminds me of Harry Potter.

Tell us more!

The steam tunnels are the real gold mine. Those are legendary for being difficult to get into. They connect every building on campus. They used to be pretty open, but about 10 years ago they went around and put locks on all of the entrances, because students were going down there a lot and drinking, adding graffiti, etc.

Underground pools, steam tunnels… what more needs to be said. This is awesome, absolutely awesome. I love old buildings, tunnels, etc. It makes me feel like an adventurous kid again :slight_smile: Now I really hope I get in!

@cook

How is the Mansueto Library? Do you use it a lot?
