Who will attend HMC?

<p>I was reading a thread about accepted students at HMC but most were either not thinking in attending or waitlisted. Who will enroll?
Yes, if you can't help giving your numbers, go ahead.
What colleges are you turning down? Why you chose HMC (I'm sure it wasn't for financial aid =)?
And..., if you are a girl, please let us know!!! </p>

<p>I will start.
790 M 600 CR 620 W Essay score 6 (After reading some stats, I don't know how I got in =) )
IIC 800 IC 760 Physics 710 Spanish 800 TOEFL 267</p>

<p>I was rejected from 13 colleges, and waitlisted at Wash U and Grinnell. I turned down just Colgate. </p>

<p>Reason to enroll: HMC (I think) is well above Colgate (my only other option) in the sciences.</p>

<p>I am an international student (neither asian nor indian).</p>

<p>Male</p>

<p>I just sent the deposit today; however, I'm still looking for funds.</p>

<p>I've enrolled!</p>

<p>RJ: MIT
WL: Stanford, Caltech
ACP: Harvey Mudd, Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Tech</p>

<p>I chose HMC because I think I'd get a really unique and extremely robust education there. After going to ASP, I'm unsure if I'd even want to go to Stanford or Caltech if I somehow got admitted from the waitlist.</p>

<p>"And..., if you are a girl, please let us know!!"
-.-
What's up with that, lol?</p>

<p>I'd really like to go to HMC, but unfortunately another school offered me more money, which is kinda good and kinda bad. I wish you all the second best of luck!</p>

<p>I turned down a full ride + stipend + 160 student bioE department + Honors Program + predicted 3 year graduation to atttend HMC, where I actually pay a lot of money. It better be worth it.</p>

<p>^ Lawl</p>

<p>Anyway, Im enrolling so its obviously awesome :P</p>

<p>jk...kinda</p>

<p>Sent my deposit in last week!</p>

<p>SAT I: 790M 750V 680W 7 Essay
SAT IIs:
Math IIC 800
Physics 800
Chem 780</p>

<p>Rejected: MIT
W/L: Wash U, Rice
Accepted: Mudd, Cornell, Haverford, WPI</p>

<p>why i choose mudd: cool students who love math/science, great education, awesome research opportunities, weather :-) (that's more of a bonus)</p>

<p>EDIT: also mudd's financial offer was simply AMAZING. much better than cornell's.</p>

<p>Sending in the deposit tomorrow</p>

<p>SAT I: 800 M 700 V 730 W
SAT II: Math IIc 780, Math IC 770, Chem 750, Lit 690</p>

<p>Rejected: MIT, Stanford, Duke
WL: Chicago
Accepted: HMC, Case, Cornell, JHU, Tufts, NWU, OSU, BC</p>

<p>reason I picked HMC: horrible fin aid packages at every school but case and osu. I had a full ride to case, and the package to case and hmc were basically the same. Thank god for the 10k/yr scholarship hmc gave me, and the other grants for fin aid, truly a stellar offer. My parents convinced me today to choose hmc over osu full ride. Now I realize how happy I am that they did.</p>

<p>atomicfusion:</p>

<p>tomorrow?!? as in the very last day possible to deposit?!?</p>

<p>sounds like something I'd do.</p>

<p>yeah and it looks like one of the last possible hours too lol. I'm not going to school today so I can run to the post office to send it in and watch it get postmarked. I'm going to call the fin aid office to make sure my package is final, because we had some issues that changed a lot of my packages before, but I'm pretty sure the one at HMC is final. I'm just paranoid. I'd be crushed if the fin aid package changed.</p>

<p>It's just that i have heard that very few girls attend.
Nothing else =)</p>

<p>are you attending HM now?</p>

<p>Anybody else?</p>

<p>Internationals?</p>

<p>Girls?</p>

<p>come on!</p>

<p>hmc= my life right now. :)</p>

<p>Maybe we should change this a little. How about everyone going to HMC puts some other info too? It would be cool if we got to know each other a little before we see each other next year. Just some ideas of mine (add or take away whatever):</p>

<p>State: Ohio
Gender: Male
Race: Caucasian
Hobbies: playing frisbee, watching tv, watching movies, reading books and reading about current events
Somethings about yourself: I'm really into this method of solving problems that Enrico Fermi developed. It's a science olympiad event and pretty interesting. "fermi questions". I'm really into politics too. I rarely play videogames, but when I do.. Madden NFL 2006.
What you were involved in in High school: science olympiad (basically took up all of my EC time this year... it's crazy here)
Favorite subject/class: ap physics and ap government
What do you look forward to the most at HMC: meeting new people, nice california weather, having good teachers for once, pushing myself harder than in high school
What worries you the most of HMC: difficulty, work load, not finding people who I connect with, air pollution (lol)
AIM sn: alexkrause113</p>

<p>that's cool. frisbee is pretty popular here. i almost always see people outside playing when the weather is decent.</p>

<p>State: Texas
Gender: Male
Race: Asian-American (Vietnamese)
Hobbies: sitting at my (apple) computer for very long periods of time, internets (myspacing/facebooking/digging/ytmnding), eclectic music, movies, tv (daily show and colbert report), video games (halo 2), photography, sleeping
Somethings about yourself: I have a bad habit of putting lots of pressure on myself and then procrastinating. Most of the time, I think I do a fairly good job of balancing work and play. I love being a leader. I should be studying for an AP exam right now.
What you were involved in in High school: Yearbook (Editor-in-Chief and a photographer), Multicultural organizations, community service, and other things that I'm too lazy to list out.
Favorite subject/class: ap physics, ap compsci, ap calc
What do you look forward to the most at HMC: a close community, learning what i want to learn and being around/meeting people who want to do the same, california, disneyland, awesome profs, being close to one of my high school friends who is going to Loyola Marymount.
What worries you the most of HMC: the work might kill me, arrogant intellectuals
AIM sn: happyluckypanda</p>

<p>sweet I love halo 2, daily report, colbert report, and ytmnd</p>

<p>btw is there anyway to get our HMC email address? my facebook is still for Case lol and I wanna update it.</p>

<p>I met a few prefrosh girls at the admitted weekend who will be attending. I'm a bit nervous about the gender ratio though.</p>

<p>Gender: Female
Race: Chinese
Hobbies: cooking, golf, piano, ballroom dancing, reading, mmm...i like sleeping too.
Something about yourself: umm...I have a younger sister whom people mistake for me all the time. My favorite book is Ender's Game.
What you were involved in in high school: physics club vice-president, math team, junior classical league, youth and government, varsity golf, swim, science center exhibit assistant, hospital escort, children's hospital therapy pool helper, youth volunteer corps advisory board member, involved in forest restoration and homelessness projects, 5hrs/wk as lab intern building low-cost spectrophotometer, 5hrs/wk as reading tutor, also helping run tutoring program for underperforming youth, etc.
Favorite subject/class: genetics, physics, ap english literature
What do you look forward to the most at HMC: sunshine, supportive environment, meeting people who are passionate about what they do =)
What worries you the most of HMC: the physics core, being too restricted by my classes (i want to take a lot of cog sci and linguistics at pomona), not sleeping enough, too much work and no play?</p>

<p>VoraciousPanda, don't worry, there's very few, if any, arrogant intellectuals at Mudd. People are smart, but not arrogant about it.</p>

<p>Atomic, you won't get your Mudd email till June. But once you do, be sure to add Tahir Yusufaly as your first facebook friend ;).</p>
