Who will be the first to know?

triple legacy? yikes.

i heard at notre dame there's people that are like 6th generation.... thats sick.

The only legacy I have is that of dropping out of Penn like my dad did :)

Pft...at least you ppl have legacies to talk about. I'm first generation EVERYTHING. :)

blah mine is quasi-legacy of a cousin who got in the penn law grad. then transfered to nyu last year.

first generation going to college? they will prolly notice that in the app... all penn is going to see is that both of my PhD chemist parents went to some obscure institute in moscow. but maybe theyll want some russian flavor ~ as if there werent enough at penn already ugh

I'm not even sure if my Dad went to penn really. he claims he got into wharton.

but my mom says that he just took one class there for the hell of it....

my mom went to NYU-Stern. she was like "I went to the CUNY offices and all I had to sit on were these awful, ratty chairs. The Columbia office was so much nicer, but I lived in Brooklyn and it'd be too much of a commute. So then NYU's office had these big luxurious armchairs, and I was like 'yes. this is the place for me.' I had no idea I was picking out my future based on interior decorating."

can you imagine?

wow there's a lot of russians here.

you guys are defintely gonna help me when I'm failing Russsian at Penn. lol.

wow, renny. what a story.

lol.

Hopefully being a first generation college kid, immigrant, and blah blah blah will help me a bit...I dunno. I mean, for god sakes, when I showed my dad the Huntsman Proficiency Letter, the first thing he did was pick it up, hold it up, and say, "Gee! Very good paper quality"...25% cotton eh? My parents rock.

i visited NYU and their campus was a piece of crap... compared to columbia, especially, cause columbia was GORGEOUS...and real cute guys. thats another thing. like around here, penn is known for having not very attractive people. like my friend from villanova is always like "penn girls are dirt, nova girls are beautiful" and my junior (guy) friends at penn are like drooling over the freshman class right now bc they said everyone in their grade was ugly

Really? I heard Penn had the best looking student body...hehe.

catch where did you come from? and are you a citizen? i was SOO ****ed off cause i got my citizenship in september and i didnt want it at all

it gets better lol. my dad got into Harvard as a Russian immigrant/alien. but he didn't go, wanted to stay close to home. So he went to a CUNY. And then one morning I'm brushing my teeth the day before taking the SATs the first time...and my dad is like "You know, I cheated on the SATs."

Me: !??!?!?!?!
My dad: "Well I had moved from Russia two years prior, and my math was great but English, not so much. So I started copying another kid's answers on the verbal section...then I realized they were taking a math section. And I still got into Harvard."
Me: "I hate you."

and my mom, she only moved here at 18 so she didn't have to take the SATs...her TOEFL was enough (and her dad was an English teacher in Russia so her english was great.)

but then, she had also just moved from Moscow and wasn't yet a citizen. And, had graduated with straight A's and all honors from an extremely prestigious Russian Music College.

my greatest music accomplishment was to win some crappy-ass Drew University's Music and Art Competition, and the prize was to play at Carnegie Hall. And it wasn't even the big room, it was one of those small Recital Halls off of it. I was the only white girl there lol. The rest were Asian, one white guy and one black guy. I spent the entire time playing cards with these awesomely cool asian girls. later someone was like "didn't you feel weird as the only white girl?" i was like "i barely noticed it." THIS IS WHY I SHOULD GO TO PENN. I MAY LIVE IN AN 80% WHITE TOWN BUT I'M NOT RACIST GODDAMNIT! I NEED EXPOSURE TO DIVERSITY!

k done now.

I defintely saw some hott penn girls, and some less desirable ones.

I didn't see many hott guys... but when I get there all of that will change.

hmm well. 'Nova is full of dumb party people anyway.

LOL catch that's hilarious.

and yes NYU's campus is crap. It's not even a CAMPUS. Their campus is the Village. Penn is way better. Columbia was pretty but SO CROWDED. the entire student body seemed to be on the stairs to the library. Penn is amazing in comparison

lol my dad got a 1310 on the SAT's. which according to him was a great score in 1966.

Me from Mainland China!!! No citizenship yet. I am gonna apply for it after I find out my decision...just don't feel like doing any paperwork right now. I wanna rot in front of the computer till d-day.

I am not even exercising nowdays!! What is this! Note to self: if accepted, must go back on normal work-out routine...

blurinka are you from pa? ... cause it sort of sucks that most of us are from around the philly/jersey area... cause it means we'd get the same regional director. anyone else have Beth Murphy??

1310 is a great score. the whole system got re-calibrated. and back in the day there was less prep material.
right now, a lot of people take prep courses so it's a less accurate assessment of intelligence and a more see-how-well-you-can-regurgitate-a-textbook

NYU sucks. its way overrated. Columbia is cool though.

Everyone here is so unique and I'm just a plain white guy with sideburns....

haha yeah yeah i am going to become so unmotivated at school if i get in. high school will no longer have any point to it. like i can kiss my graduation speech goodbye on friday if all goes according to plan...
