Just a bit of curiosity - I'm wondering how many people have already been offered a full scholarship at one of the colleges/universities they've applied to, but would choose to go to Yale instead.

University of Alabama offered me a full ride, but it's pretty much the last place on Earth I'd ever want to be. (edit: okay, that was an exageration. U of A probably isn't so bad, but when I tell people about it they have only one thing they know about Bama, and that's FOOTBALL. That really annoys me.) It's also my only "financial safety". I shoulda planned better, but didn't.

I will take out EVERY LOAN IN THE UNIVERSE to go to either MIT or Yale, but I'm not sure which. If Yale rejects me I'll have a really easy decision. :D

^^ That's really interesting that you're choosing between MIT and Yale as your top choices. Those are two very different schools.

^ agreed.

Anyway, I've got basically a full ride to UT-Austin, which I would turn down in a heartbeat for Yale :)

A ton of other state schools offered me full rides for National Merit stuff, but I didn't even apply lol

I turned down an almost full ride too...

Full ride from Yale
That is my life there. I would do that in a heart beat!
I have no prayer for paying for college man. No prayer.

Yeah, I know, but half of me is an extreme math/science nerd (MIT) and the other half loves politics, creative writing, and theater (Yale). I think I'd be able to fit in perfectly at either.

I've got a full ride to the University of Minnesota, but I'd turn it down for Yale without even thinking :-)

Aha, I have a full-ride to University of Alabama too. And Bethany College, Florida A&M, and Texas A&M. Sorry, but Yale beats em out.

I got about $49,000 from Yale, including $3700 work study, so that is almost a free ride.

I'm a finalist for the Morehead at UNC (much greater than a free ride) and I will turn down Yale if I get it.

I'd turn turn a full ride to ASU's honors college for Yale. No question.

goldenratiophi,we're in the same boat! (I'm not applying to MiT, though) I love science and engineering (omg, I'm such a nerd), but I also love writing, discussing politics, history, you name it.

Hopefully, Yale is a little bit of both :)
I would probably not say no to a full ride somewhere else (given it's a good place, of course) - especially if Yale's finaid offer was mediocre in comparison.

Guess we'll have to wait and see >_>

I'd get a full ride from Bradley University, since my dad works there. I like it, but my dad works there, which is THE problem.

I got a full ride from UPitt. It would depend on Yale's FA if I'd turn it down or not.

seeing u guys talk like this is like a dream hehe...i thnk i heard it somewhere..YALE..:D

i guess FA decides which college we go to rather than we ourselves...well for some/most of us...

as much as appealing those colleges like Yale and MIT can be, it may not be as easy to just choose them instead of leaving out a full ride

For more elite universities, if I got a full ride at lets say Duke, I would give up Yale

Actually, a full-ride to Oberlin might make me turn down Yale.

...like that's gonna happen.

A full ride at IU Bloomington, direct admit to Kelley School of Business definitely does not do it. Good school though.

wow you guys are lucky to already have secured rides. I'm just hoping I get into at least one of my schools....

I'm a nominee for the Jefferson scholarship at the University of Virginia. If I get that (doubtful, considering less than 2% do), Yale would need to give me nearly 100% FA for me to choose it.
Not saying I don't like Yale! I applied SCEA!
