I know I would...

I wouldn’t! =[
If I’m a spring admit at Berkeley, I’d might as well go to my local state uni.
full ride there > 2nd class student at UCB

I don’t think a spring admit is second rate…you just wait a bit longer and after that you are equal.

I don’t think i would have come here if i was spring admit. but that’s just me…

i would have come here as a spring admit because i didn’t get into ucla, and i would so much rather be here at cal than at ucsd, as great a school as that is.

i don’t think spring admit is second class. other than taking classes at a nearby off-campus location, your experience is pretty much exactly the same. i have two FPF roommates who have both said the same thing.

haha, killthefifi, i strongly disagree. there was another thread where someone explained all about spring admits and you can go up to berkeley and participate in classes “outside” of the college, but you can still earn credits and they are slightly easier. Apparently, after you are admitted, nobody cares if you were a spring admit.

it might actually be easier to get a good gpa, but still the first semester is when you meet everyone…

No one cares if you are a Spring admit or a transfer. If you’re in Berkeley, then you’re just like everyone else: usually deserving to be in Berkeley. Also save some money if you are a Spring admit because you don’t need to pay a semester’s worth of tuition, fees, and housing.

the stats are on your side, spring admits generally have higher GPAs than fall admits

@mechrocket: really? why are they admitted for the spring then?

^
yea porque?

in college, not HS…

oh haha…

As long as you’re a spring admit for reasons other than that you’re just not up to the university standards, I’d say it’s fine – Berkeley isn’t great for the lower end students, honestly. But otherwise, nobody will care. I found out only a bit later that some people I met were spring admits.

does going to a uc berkeley help you went you go out to find a job compared to uci or ucsb or ucr. etc.

888 I think the name itself should help in some ways if you’re going into a job versus a student from uci, r, sb and etc. (UCLA will probably be looked upon as pretty much of the same caliber if you’re in the western areas) But of course, it really boils down to your own potential in the end. That’s how I think of it least.

And I wouldn’t come here if I were a spring admit as a freshman. Would’ve gone to LA, private, or state with a bit more scholarship money.

Many times spring admits (recall I was one of them) often are more academically fit than fall admits, it is just they have less ECs or less great essays, etc.

FPF courses are easier than their on campus equivalents, so FPF students in the end get a slightly padded GPA. This can be useful for getting a job or getting into graduate school, law school, med school, or other professional schools.

^
Are fall admits allowed to appeal so they get spring? lol not that I can do that …but just wondering.

spring admits can appeal for fall, but not vice versa

i was a fall admit but i wanted to be a spring admit at the time-people thought i was weird
